    摘要: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that manages use of a battery in a portable electronic device. During operation, the system operates a charging circuit for converting an input voltage from a power source into a set of output voltages for charging the battery and powering a low-voltage subsystem and a high-voltage subsystem in the portable electronic device. Upon detecting the input voltage from the power source and a low-voltage state in the battery during operation of the charging circuit, the system uses a first inductor group in the charging circuit to down-convert the input voltage to a target voltage of the battery that is lower than a voltage requirement of the high-voltage subsystem. The system also uses a second inductor group in the charging circuit to up-convert the target voltage to power the high-voltage subsystem.

    摘要: State based full and empty control for rechargeable batteries that will assure a uniform battery empty condition, even in the presence of a load on the battery. A fuel gauge provides a prediction of the open circuit voltage of the battery, and when the predicted open circuit voltage of the battery reaches the predetermined open circuit voltage of an empty battery, the load is terminated, after which the battery will relax back to the predetermined open circuit voltage of an empty battery. A similar technique is disclosed for battery charging, allowing faster battery charging without overcharging. Preferably an RC battery model is used as the fuel gauge to provide the prediction, but as an alternative, a coulomb counter may be used to provide the prediction, with error correction between successive charge discharge cycles.

    摘要: A charging device used for charging a storage battery includes a first circuit that generates a current which depends on a charging current of the storage battery; a second circuit in which charge is accumulated by periodical supply of the current which depends on the charging current; and a third circuit that outputs a signal indicating completion of charge of the storage battery when the potential of the second circuit reaches a reference potential. The second circuit includes a capacitor and a transistor in which an oxide semiconductor is used for a channel formation region. The transistor is turned on or off in response to a pulse signal input to a gate of the transistor. The capacitor accumulates charge when the current depending on the charging current flows through the transistor.

    摘要: A power supply system includes a regulator circuit responsive to an input signal at the input node for producing an output signal at the output node at a desired level. The regulator circuit has a controller, an inductive element and a first switch coupled to the inductor element and controlled by the controller to produce the output signal. Also, the power supply system includes a Coulomb counter for producing a Coulomb count signal proportional to the number of Coulombs passing from the input node to the output node. The Coulomb counter is enabled by an enabling signal representing a predetermined time period, for determining the number of Coulombs passing from the input node to the output node during that predetermined time period.
