摘要: A battery pack raises an alarm under overheated or high pressure conditions in the battery pack. The alarm is raised from the battery pack or an external device that is coupled with the battery pack when the temperature or the pressure of the battery pack exceeds a predetermined level. The battery pack includes a terminal that is coupled with a charging device or an external device, a battery cell coupled with the terminal so that the battery cell can be charged or discharged, a sensor that is installed in the battery cell to detect at least one of a temperature and a pressure of the battery cell, and an alarm unit that compares a value detected by the sensor with a reference level and raises an alarm for a user when the value detected by the sensor exceeds the reference level.

摘要: A method and apparatus (FIG. 1) for optimizing recharging of batteries (20) in an electric or hybrid vehicle that uses an electric motor (35) powered by the batteries (20) and having a regenerative system (10) that uses mechanical forces of the vehicle to generate current to recharge the batteries. The output of the regenerative system is controlled (15 and 35) to supply a maximum amount of current to recharge the batteries immediately after termination of a pulse or continuous discharge thereby to recapture a larger portion of the discharge current (FIG. 3) and the battery voltage is monitored (35) during recharge and the voltage is controlled (15) during charge so that it does not exceed a predetermined value at which battery gas evolution takes place (FIG. 2), thereby permitting the battery to be charged to a relatively high state of charge.

摘要: In a circuit (20) for use in controlling a battery-charging process and producing an output (S) which has one of two distinct levels (S1, S2), these levels are independently adjustable by adjusting variable resistors (R1, R2). Switching between the two levels is effected by transistors (T1, T2) in response to a varying input signal (X).The input signal (X) is derived from a hydrogen/oxygen recombinator (40, FIG. 4, not shown) with a thermoelectric transducer which produces an abrupt change in output when the battery is fully-charged. To ensure a gradual switch-over to a lower battery-charging rate, the output of the transducer is passed via an integrator (41) to the circuit (20). The switch means for one of the resistors (R2) may be omitted (FIG. 1 not shown).

摘要: A gassing detector for use in modifying the charge rate in charging circuits for liquid electrolyte secondary cells. A light is reflected from the surface of the electrolyte into a photodetector. A discriminator circuit distinguishes the pulses in the photodetector output characteristic of the rippling caused by gassing of the cell and produces a signal to cause the charger to reduce the charge rate.

摘要: The improved method of the present invention comprises charging a vented alkaline electrolyte-containing electrochemical cell employing an electrode pair selected from the group consisting of nickel-zinc, nickel-cadmium, silver-zinc and silver-cadmium and at least periodic measuring the charging efficiency of the cell by determining the rate of gas evolution from the cell. The charging of the cell is terminated when the charging efficiency substantially decreases, signifying the cell having reached an about full charge. The charging efficiency at that point normally substantially decreases to a value of about 0.5.+-.0.2. In the alkaline electrolyte-containing cells, the charging efficiency is determined according to the formula E=1-(15.8/I) v wherein E is the charging efficiency, I is the current in amperes and v is the gas generation rate in the cell in cc per second. The improved method prevents overcharging of the cell and accurately determines when an about full charge is reached. Accordingly, charging can be carried out without risk of damage to the cell and with the greatest efficiency.

摘要: A battery pressure transducer for producing a change in resistance with changes in pressure which includes a diaphragm having one side subject to pressure and the other side carrying a conductive layer. An annular resistive element is placed in slightly spaced relationship to the conductive layer and has a center contact and an outer peripheral contact. As pressure deflects the diaphragm, the conductive layer shunts part of the resistance and, thus, decreases the resistance between the contacts by an amount proportional to the pressure.
