Abstract: A transponder includes a multiplexing section, optical transmitters, optical receivers, an extracting section, and a warning monitor section, wherein the extracting section includes a first signal extracting unit for extracting reception data, a second signal extracting unit for extracting reception data, and a reception signal switching section. When carrier signals are in a link-establishable state, the reception signal switching section supplies reception electric signals generated by the optical receivers to the first signal extracting unit and outputs the reception data. When a carrier signal is in a non-link-establishable state, the reception signal switching section supplies a reception electric signal generated by an optical receiver using a carrier signal in the link-establishable state to the second signal extracting unit and outputs the reception data extracted by the second signal extracting unit.

Abstract: An amplifier receives an optical signal including a number of labeled channels via a fiber. The amplifier determines a count of the labeled channels and a spectral distribution of the labeled channels. The amplifier adjusts a parameter of the amplifier based on the count of the labeled channels and the spectral distribution of the labeled channels. The amplifier amplifies the optical signal at an adjusted output gain resulting from adjusting the parameter of the amplifier.

Abstract: A method of identifying network faults includes receiving subscriber statuses of customer premises equipment (CPE) of a communication network represented as a tree having a root node and leaf nodes. Each leaf node corresponds to a CPE. For each CPE, the method includes: (i) determining a conditional probability of the subscriber status of the CPE for each sub-tree in the network tree; (ii) determining a joint probability of the subscriber status of the CPE for every sub-tree in the network tree; (iii) determining a joint probability of the subscriber status of the CPE for every residual tree in the network tree; and (iv) determining a Bayesian posterior probability of a cut at each leaf node, given the subscriber status of the CPE. The method further includes determining a network node status topology indicating node statuses of nodes of the network tree based on the determined Bayesian posterior probabilities.

Abstract: A selection and distribution circuit (13) is provided between N optical transceivers (11) and one PON control circuit (12). The selection and distribution circuit (13) selects the optical transceiver (11) corresponding to an upstream frame that time-divisionally arrives, thereby transferring the upstream frame opto-electrically converted by the transceiver (11) to the PON control circuit (12) and distributing a downstream frame from the PON control circuit (12) to each optical transceiver (11). A power supply control circuit (23) stops power supply to at least one of one of optical transceivers (11) that are not used to transfer the frame of the optical transceivers (11) and a circuit that is not used to transfer the frame in the selection and distribution circuit (13). This can reduce the system cost per ONU in the optical transmission system.
