Polyamides containing as much as 50 mole percent nylon-3 units in at least a partially alternating system and exhibiting high glass transition temperatures (Tg) can be prepared from N,N'-terephthaloyldi-beta-alanine and a diamine, such as bis(p-aminocyclohexyl)methane. Properties of such polyamides can be controlled by choice of the diamine and the preparation temperature without loss of the high Tg. The polyamides of this invention exhibit utility in comfort fiber applications.

Extremely rapid ambient curing of polyepoxide resins and mixtures of polyepoxide resins and polyacrylate esters is achieved by use of a curing system composed of at least one polymercaptan and at least one catalytic co-curing agent which is the condensation product of:(a) aliphatic amine or substituted aliphatic amine containing at least one primary aliphatic amine group where the aliphatic moiety is ethylene or greater with(b) at least one amino acid, its corresponding lactam or other amide forming derivative.Optionally, known Lewis Base catalysts for the epoxy/mercaptan reaction, such as tertiary amines, may also be used.

There are disclosed and claimed novel polyamides on the basis of a) 1,3-bis-(amino-methyl)-cyclohexane or mixtures thereof with 1,4-bis-(amino-methyl)-cyclohexane; b) one or several aromatic dicarboxylic acid (s); and c) one or several aliphatic amino-carboxylic acid(s); and the process of making the same. These polyamides combine high transparency with very good thermal and mechanical properties, namely high second order transition temperatures, good form stability at higher temperatures, high hardness and impact strength.

There is disclosed a process for the preparation of novel transparent polyamides with improved properties. These polyamides are obtained by polycondensing 1,3-bis-(amino-methyl)-cyclohexane, which can be partly substituted by the 1,4-derivative, at least one aromatic dicarboxylic acid and at least one amino-carboxylic acid or the lactam thereof with at least one aliphatic straight chain or branched diamine or/and at least one aliphatic straight chain or branched dicarboxylic acid.

THE NYLON 6.6 COMPOSITION IS A COPOLYMER OF PRIMARILY HEXAMETHYLENE ADIPAMIDE AND A SMALL BUT EFFECTIVE AMOUNT OF AN W-AMINOCARBOXYLIC ACID OR A DERIVATIVE THEREOF. THE AMOUNT OF W-AMINOCARBOXYLIC ACID, OF WHICH E-CAPROLACTAM IS MOST PREFERRED, COPOLYMERIZED WITH THE HEXAMETHYLENE DIAMMONIUM ADIPATE IS LESS THAN THAT WHICH SUBSTANTIALLY AFFECTS NORMAL NYLON 6.6 CHARACERISTICS YET IS SUFFICIENT TO IMPROVE PROCESSIBILITY THROUGH SPINNING, DRAWING AND BEAMING, DYE UNIFORMITY, AND MECHANICAL QUALITY. EVEN GREATER SHRINKAGE RESULTS WHEN A PORTION OF THE ALIPHATIC DIAMINE COMPONENT (A) IS REPLACED WITH 1,4CYCLOHEXANEBIS(METHYLAMINE). FIBERS MADE FROM THE NOVEL COPOLYAMIDES ARE ALSO USEFUL FOR TIRE REINFORCEMENT DUE TO THEIR LOW FLATSPOTTING TENDENCY OVER WIDE RANGES OF TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY.
