    摘要： The invention relates to a method of trimming selvage from a succession of books. According to the method, a saw is provided having a pair of oppositely facing surfaces which merge at a cutting edge. One of the surfaces is substantially flat throughout its length or throughout all but the area of the surface adjacent the cutting edge. The latter area is bevelled as is the other surface of the saw. The books are advanced toward the saw and the saw is so positioned relative to the books such that its cutting run is normal to the direction of book advance and is parallel to the plane of the pages of the books. The saw is also positioned such that its first-mentioned surface faces pages trimmed by the saw and its other surface faces selvage trimmed by the saw.

    摘要： Elongated compound plates are severed at desired intervals in a bandsawing machine wherein the frame for a travelling saw band is movable in and counter to the direction of movement of the plates as well as in and counter to a second direction at right angles to the first direction. The frame further supports a tool which is located behind the band, as considered in the second direction, and is provided with two deburring surfaces serving to penetrate into the kerf which is formed while the frame moves simultaneously in the first and second directions. The freshly severed portions of plates are accelerated in the first direction to increase the width of kerfs so that the band can be readily retracted counter to the second direction prior to returning to a starting position by moving with the frame counter to the first direction. The widening of the kerf can be effected by the tool or by a conveyor which receives successively separated portions of moving plates and accelerates them in the first direction. The plates are free to catch up with and to push the freshly separated portions in the first direction as soon as the band is retracted counter to the second direction.

    摘要： A metal cutting band saw is provided with guides for the cutting reach of the blade. With the band saw in upright position the guides hold the blade in the normal position, i.e., parallel to the axes of the rollers over which the blade passes. However, when the head of the band saw is tipped down to approximate a horizontal position, the guides are reset to twist the cutting reach of the blade on the order of 45* from its normal position to allow cutting of pieces which are too large otherwise to reach through the throat of the band saw.
