The invention relates to a regulating device for hydrostatic piston machines consisting of an actuating piston (2) which can be removed between two end positions which can be impinged upon by actuating pressure exerted thereon in an opposite direction. An actuating pressure regulating valve (5) is used to regulate the actuating pressure. The actuating regulating valve (5), which is used to regulate the actuating pressure, comprises a regulating piston which can be shifted from a neutral position and which can be impinged upon with a regulating force which is dependent on the position of the actuating piston (2). The regulating force is directed counter to a control force acting upon the regulating piston (6) and the regulating force is zero when the regulating device (1) is in a rest position. When the regulating device (1) is in a rest position, the regulating piston (6) is in a neutral position and the actuating piston (2) is a specific end position.

A method of manufacturing a wear resistant shoe (26) includes upsetting (46) one end portion (38) of cylindrical member to work harden that portion to a substantial depth, machining (48) the cylindrical member portion to finished dimensions and surface hardening (56) a face (28 or 34) of the machined cylindrical member portion. The cylindrical member may comprise rod stock of a diameter less than the greatest diameter of the finished shoe and be upset or swaged to axially reduce and radially increase the dimensions of the one end portion. A hollow region (30) is formed in an opposite rod stock end portion and the periphery (50) of the hollow region is crimped about a rounded end (18) of the piston (20). The cold work done during the swaging or forming process provides a foundation for hardened faces comprising balance (28) and auxiliary balance (34) lands, forms a crude shape of the shoe, and imparts work hardening and wear property improvements. The harder metal surface provides a foundation for subsequent surface hardening such as coating with TiN. The crimping process used to join the shoe to the piston imparts cold work to the skirt region of the shoe and enhances the wear resistance of the shoe. The cold heading step (46) may be omitted if a hardened rod stock is used, but the skirt should be annealed (66) prior to crimping to the piston.

A bent axis type variable displacement hydraulic machine employing hydrostatic radial bearings for supporting hydraulic reaction forces exerted on the cylinder block. In a hydraulic machine of this sort, the number of pistons which are located in the high pressure are varies with the rotation of the cylinder block, and the resultant force of hydraulic reaction forces has an acting point at a position off the axis of the rotational shaft. Therefore, the hydrostatic radial bearings are located in such positions as to balance the moment loads which occur about the rotational shaft in relation with the acting point of the resultant force of radial hydraulic reaction forces on the drive disc of the rotational shaft. As a result, it becomes possible to lead to suppression of oil leaks from the sliding surfaces to a minimal rate and to prevent abnormal abrasive wear of each of the sliding surfaces.

Static fluid pressure is applied to the couple ring at circumferentially spaced points and from both the outer and the inner side of the ring so that a couple of forces is produced in the couple ring while providing balanced static pressure on the ring at each of the circumferentially spaced points thereby to rotate the couple ring, which can be connected to a mechanical element outside the casing. By positively rotating the couple ring by means of an external drive, it is possible to operate the device as a fluid pump.

In the motor, cylinder feed orifices (41a, 42a) are distributed around the circumference of a circle about the axis of rotation (5), and the small cylinder capacity corresponds to an irregular angular distribution of active cylinder orifices (41a) which continue to be fed. This configuration makes it possible to provide a constant velocity motor with at least two different cylinder capacities and which is mechanically long-lasting.

A cylinder block (1) has radial bores (3) of rectangular cross section with a piston comprising a hollow roller (5) and a piston cap (4). The rollers (5) are supported on an outer cam (2). The piston caps (4) are periodically exposed to the pressure (p) of a medium which is delivered to them via channels (11, 13) in side sealing plates (6,7) and via the hollow spaces (10) of the rollers (5). The piston caps (4) are provided with sealing strips (17, 18) resting on bore walls (8, 9) and with support ribs (19, 20). Each roller (5), with the two associated bore walls (8, 9), forms gaps each of which, together with the one sealing strip (17, 18) and bore wall (8, 9) define an intermediate chamber (p.sub.c, p.sub.o). From the intermediate chambers (p.sub.c, p.sub.o) channels (25, 26) lead in the piston cap (4) to the support faces ( 23, 24) of the support ribs (19, 20). The support face (23) lifting away during operation at a predetermined inclination of the cam (2) places the intermediate chamber with which it communicates under an intermediate pressure (p.sub.c) determined by the pertinent gap (h.sub.c) of the roller (5) and the bore wall (8), this intermediate pressure (p.sub.c) forcing a speed upon the cylinder block (1). The oppositely located intermediate chamber having low pressure (p.sub.o) is sealed off from the pressure (p) of the medium by the support face (24) of the other support rib (20) resting on the other bore wall (9). As a result, it is possible to reduce unavoidable leakage losses without impairing the mechanical efficiency of the unit.

The clearance of the bearing rings from the pin bearing surfaces is less than the clearance of the bearing rings from the guide member. Upon heating of the pin, the bearing rings simultaneously heat up to the same temperature to maintain their clearance. This prevents seizing of the bearing rings and, in turn, the guide member on the pin during use.
