摘要: A method and system are provided for determining travel time through intersections by assigning an initial position for a virtual probe in the intersection and updating the position and velocity for the virtual probe such that the position and velocity of the virtual probe are determined multiple times from a time when the virtual probe is at an initial position until the time when the updated position of the virtual probe is past a stop line at the intersection. Updating the position and velocity of the virtual probe involves retrieving vehicle detection data and traffic control signal data to determine a distance from the virtual probe to the closer of a stop line and a vehicle in a queue in front of the virtual probe. The length of the queue is determined using the intersection of two shockwaves.

摘要: A method of checking the quality of traffic disturbance reporting processes records a total number of traffic disturbance reports generated by a traffic disturbance reporting process, which traffic disturbance reports each relate to at least one defined reporting time period and at least one defined reporting route segment, over a predefined analyzing time period and a predefined analyzing range. A number of reported conditions is formed from the total number of traffic disturbance reports, and a first statistical frequency distribution of the reported conditions is determined. A total number of reference observations are recorded, which each relate to at least one defined observation time period and at least one defined observation route segment, within the analyzing time period and within the analyzing range. A number of actual conditions is formed from the total number of reference observations and a second statistical frequency distribution of the actual conditions is determined. The second statistical frequency distribution is compared with the first statistical frequency distribution, and a quality indicator for the traffic disturbance reporting process is derived from the result of the comparison.

摘要: A system and method for providing real-time traffic information using a wireless vehicle-to-vehicle communications network. A vehicle includes a plurality of sensors that detect other vehicles around the vehicle. The wireless communications system on the vehicle uses the sensor signals to calculate a traffic condition index that identifies traffic information around the vehicle. The vehicle broadcasts the traffic condition index to other vehicles and/or road side infrastructure units that can present the information to the vehicle driver, such as in a navigation system, and/or rebroadcast the traffic information to other vehicles. The traffic condition index can be calculated using the speed of the surrounding vehicles, posted speed limits, the distance between the surrounding vehicles and the traffic density of the surrounding vehicles.

摘要: In an electronic toll collection system, card data of a payment card is stored in an on-board unit mounted in a vehicle. Toll data necessary for a toll collection transaction including the card data is copied from the on-board unit to a cellular phone. A user passes the cellular phone to a tollgate attendant, and the toll data is moved to a toll collection unit installed at a tollgate. The toll collection unit calculates a toll fee based on the toll data and generates a delete command and road use data. When the tollgate attendant passes a portable terminal of the toll collection unit to the user, the delete command and the road use data are copied to the on-board unit. The toll data is deleted from the on-board unit by the delete command, and the road use data is reported to the user.

摘要: A traffic control system and method, for expediting traffic flow across international border crossings, includes a traffic control center and a virtual traffic lane. The traffic control center is spaced apart from the border crossing, and monitors traffic flow through a border zone. The traffic control center receives border-bound traffic, or electronic information from such traffic, and evaluates it to determine a vehicle's preparedness level. The traffic control center includes facilities for temporarily holding vehicles, and assists vehicles preparing to cross the border. The virtual traffic lane is a preferred route between the traffic control center and the border crossing, and is changeable depending upon traffic conditions. The virtual traffic lane is selected from a number of available monitored routes. The traffic control center monitors traffic conditions in the border zone, and determines which preferred travel route is most appropriate for selection as the virtual lane at any given time.

摘要: A vehicle management system is disclosed that can eliminate user dissatisfaction with toll collection at a time of traffic congestion and improve driving safety. In this system, when a vehicle (101) with an on-board communication terminal apparatus (102) passes through gates (103, 106) provided at the entrance and exit of a toll road and gates (104, 105) provided at the entrance and exit of a service area (parking area), the times of passage of the vehicle (101) through the gates are detected by detection apparatuses (107 through 110) installed at the gates, and a central control apparatus (111) calculates a toll according to the time during which the toll road is used excluding time spent at the service area, and the distance traveled on the toll road, based on the times of passage through the gates.

摘要: A method and system for determining the vacancy of a parking space is described that allows a customer to remotely receive information about parking space availability before arriving at a parking lot or structure. This system allows the customer to determine whether there are parking spaces available to park a vehicle and where such parking space(s) are located before the customer arrives at the parking lot or structure.
