摘要: Errors in reading data with a magnetic head from reference zones on trackst differing radii of a magnetic memory disc rotating at constant angular velocity are determined. Each track includes at least one reference zone including a plurality of initial cells. Each initial cell has magnetic flux variations which when read by the head result in a first waveform that includes undulations enabling the head to be properly servo controlled to a position over the center of the track and a further undulation that is distinguishable from the head positioning undulations because it has a larger amplitude. The initial cells are followed by plural binary bit representing data cells each having magnetic flux variations which when read by the head result in a second waveform including a data representing undulation that has approximately the same amplitude as the further undulations. The undulations are susceptible of having varying amplitudes as the head is positioned at different positions of the disc. In response to a detected peak amplitude of each further undulation of one reference zone a threshold is set for the further undulations of subsequently read first waveforms and for the address cells of the reference zone. An error in a cell is signalled if the set threshold is exceeded by the amplitude of undulations of the first and second waveforms at incorrect times.

摘要: An apparatus for transferring data blocks of variable lengths between intaces of different widths. The apparatus includes a series memory of the first-in, first-out type (FIFO) and an interface means at the input and output of the series memory. The interface means has a first means for storage of input data words and a second means for storage of output data words, the two storage means being of different storage capacity. Means are included for signalling to external devices when the first storage means and the series memory are empty and ready to receive data. Means are also included for controlling in response to an external signal the width of the output data words.

摘要: A memory of the MOS N channel type comprising two half-memories each conting the same number of columns, each column being bisected at the center by a refreshing amplifier. A bus is alotted to each half-memory and is connectable to any half-column in the half-memory which is addressed so as to read and rewrite in the refreshing phase. The extracting and rewriting arrangement incorporates a flip-flop having its inputs connected to the buses by a differential circuit and its outputs connected to inputs of a read and rewrite circuit. The buses are initialized at a low potential and a reference potential is applied to one bus when the other bus is connected to a half-column. Transient interference rise on the selected bus above the disturbance threshold of the refreshing amplifier is prevented.

摘要: A platform for supporting at least one magnetic transducer for reading from and/or recording on a data carrier. The platform is supported from a carrier arm adapted to position the platform over the data carrier which may be a multi-track disc. The magnetic transducer is supported in the lower face of the main body of the platform. The lower face includes a plurality of skids and one or more grooves which receive a rigid strut for suspending the platform over the carrier. The strut is secured in the groove(s) with the plane of the strut passing through the center of gravity of the platform. The strut may be secured to a frame surrounding the platform which in turn may be secured to a further concentric frame also surrounding the platform. The strut includes a constriction located at the virtual axis of rotation or axis of oscillation of the platform and at which point the cross-sectional area of the strut is at a minimum. The axis of symmetry of the constriction lies in a direction perpendicular to the major dimension of the strut and coincides with the virtual axis of rotation or axis of oscillation such that the sum of the bending moment of the constriction and the moment of the pressure forces exerted on the lower face of the main body is zero.

摘要: A plurality of sub-clock signals are derived from a main clock signal sou by advancing a shift register and a counter with pulses from the main clock source. The shift register is selectively loaded with a desired combination of sub-clock bits in response to a predetermined number of main clock pulses being supplied to the counter. The sub-clock signals are derived from output terminals at different stages of the shift register. The state of the sub-clock signals can be selectively frozen by decoupling pulses from the main clock source to inputs of the counter and shift register.

摘要: Apparatus is disclosed for cumulative summing and compressing data items each of which is comprised of b binary elements. The summing and compressing apparatus is associated with control means to process each data item in a cumulative summing and compression cycle, and is comprised of an input buffer register which is designated to store a data item to be processed at the beginning of each cycle, a set of n intermediate registers occupying serial positions 1 ot n each of which has b storage locations, an adder circuit, an output buffer register made up of n sections having b storage locations, and transfer circuits which are connected to the control means, which produces a succession of control signals for successively interconnecting (1) the registers in serial positions 1 to (n-1) and the input buffer register, to the adder circuit in order to add the contents of the (n-1) registers and the data item to be processed at the beginning of each cycle and to transfer the result of this addition to the input buffer register; (2) the registers in serial positions 2 to n, to the registers in serial positions 1 to (n-1)in order to transfer the content of each of the registers in serial positions 2 to n to the register which precedes it in the order given, (3) the register in serial position n and the input buffer register, to the adder circuit in order to add the contents of these registers and to transfer the result of this addition to the register in serial position n, and (4) the registers in serial positions 1 to n, in parallel to respective ones of the n sections of the output bufrer register in order to transfer the contents of the n registers to the output buffer register so that, at the end of an N.sup.th cumulative summing and compression cycle, the contents of the output buffer register is a data item which has been compressed from a set of N data items which have been processed by the apparatus in N accumulation and compression cycles. The invention is particularly concerned with locating a failure occurring in a data processing unit by determining a symptom which is the result of accumulation and packing a series of partial symptoms.
