Abstract:
A retrieval catheter 1 for retrieval of an embolic protection filter from a vasculature. The catheter 1 comprises a proximal hypotube 3, a radially offset distal shaft 4 and a centering shank 9. A guidewire lumen 13 is provided through the shank 9 in communication with a larger guidewire lumen 7 through the shaft 4 for a continuous guidewire passageway to accommodate passage of a guidewire 21 through the shank 9, the shaft 4 and out through a proximal guidewire opening 6 to facilitate rapid exchange of the catheter 1 over a guidewire 21. The shank 9 is movable between an introduction configuration in which the shank 9 protrudes distally from the shaft 4 to centre the catheter 1 during advancement through a vasculature, and a retrieval configuration in which the shank 9 is located within the guidewire lumen 7 to facilitate retrieval of an embolic protection filter into the shaft 4.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a heat-resistant, electrically-insulating composition which is intended, for example, for a safety cable. The invention is characterised in that the composition comprises an organic polymer, a phyllosilicate and a refractory filler.
Abstract:
A catheter 1 suitable for advancement through a body passageway of a patient. The catheter 1 comprises a catheter body 4 which is flexible to provide the necessary trackability for the catheter 1 to advance through a body passageway, and two stainless steel reinforcement wires 5 extending along the catheter body 4 which provide the necessary pushability to advance the catheter 1 through the passageway. The reinforcements 5 are positioned diametrically opposed to one another by approximately 180 degrees on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis of the catheter 1, and the catheter body 4 is relatively soft and twistable. This configuration enables the entire catheter 1 to spontaneously twist during advancement so that the reinforcements 5 orientate themselves along a plane of neutral bending during advancement of the catheter 1. In this way, any resistance to the trackability of the catheter 1 due to the stiff reinforcements 5 is minimized.

Abstract:
An intrusion detection system for altering the operation of an associated machine when an appropriate intrusion is detected, the system comprising: a first detector to detect the presence of a first distinguishing property and to selectively produce an intrusion signal when the first distinguishing property associated with an object is detected within a danger zone approximate a pinch point of a machine, wherein an area approximate the pinch point of the machine does not exhibit the first distinguishing property; and, a controller, operatively coupled to the intrusion detector and the machine, for controlling the operation of the machine, wherein the controller generates a corrective action signal directed toward the machine when intrusion signals are received from the intrusion detector.
Abstract:
A multi-stone setting member has six gemstones or diamonds for attachment to a ring. The multi-stone setting member includes a rectangular-shaped housing having a first crossbar extending in a first direction; a second crossbar having first insert edges extending in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction; a third crossbar having second insert edges and being parallel to the second crossbar and also extending in the second direction; and the first crossbar is located in a different plane than the second and third crossbars. The first, second and third crossbars form six seats each for receiving one of six gemstones or diamonds. The setting member includes a frame assembly having a front wall, a rearwall and side walls. The front and rear walls of the frame assembly each include an upper end for engaging the four outer gemstones in the first and second outer rows of gemstones to keep the four outer gemstones seated within the four outer seats of the setting member. Also, the front and rear walls each includes a pair of positioning pins for connecting and attaching the setting member to the sides of a ring.
Abstract:
Methods for orienting fibers and an apparatus for orienting fibers are provided for the fabrication of improved thin abrasive wheels utilizing uniform non-woven fiber reinforcement discs. The wheels are more resistant to hub push-out failure during grinding than wheels reinforced with woven fiber cloth.
Abstract:
A broadband switching network is shown having a plurality of interconnected switching units arranged to transfer cells asynchronously therebetween. A switch control establishes connections for the asynchronous transmission of these cells between ports. A bandwidth control detects the rate at which cells are supplied to an input port; and, in response, requests switch control to allocate bandwidth to the connection. When bandwidth has not been allocated, received cells are downgraded or rejected by a usage control device. The usage control device only allows high priority cells to remain as such when bandwidth has been allocated. The network facilitates logical connections to be established without dial-up procedures. However, customers may be charged in terms of their actual usage made of the network.
