Abstract:
Systems, devices, and methods are provided for measuring and processing fuel meter measurements, such as rotary gas meter volume measurements, are generally disclosed herein. At least some aspects of the systems, devices, and methods can allow a fuel meter body to perform all processing regarding an amount of fuel dispensed from the fuel meter body and can allow the fuel meter body to provide results of the processing to an accessory configured to display data to a user. At least some aspects of the systems, devices, and methods can allow processing at the fuel meter body to be provided using one or more modules each configured to be removably and replaceably coupled to the fuel meter body.
Abstract:
A system and associated method for securing communication between a first device and a second device are provided. The system includes a first device communicatively coupled with a second device over a communication connection line. The system includes a security transformation device coupled to the communication connection line. The security transformation device is configured to transform non-secure communication into secure communication to send over the communication connection line to a destination. The security transformation device is configured to evaluate communication using security evaluation functionality by either authenticating or failing to authenticate the communication. If the communication is successfully authenticated, then the communication is provided to a destination, otherwise, the communication is not provided to the destination.
Abstract:
A water injector assembly includes an injector body having a substantially hollow interior. The injector body defines an inlet opening defined within an outer radial surface of the injector body at a first axial location along the injector body. The injector body defines a flowpath opening in fluid communication with the inlet opening such that the flowpath opening is configured to receive the fluid from the inlet opening. The injector body defines an outlet opening defined within the injector body at a second axial location along the injector body. The outlet opening is in fluid communication with the flowpath opening, such that the outlet opening receives the fluid from the flowpath opening. The second axial location of the outlet opening is different than the first axial location of the inlet opening.
Abstract:
A flow restrictor for use on a pilot operated relief valve (PORV) assembly with a pilot valve that regulates operation of a main valve to reduce pressure in a system or vessel. In one embodiment, the flow restrictor is configured with a plurality of flow modifying regions, namely, a first region and a second region that is spaced apart from the first region. These regions are configured to generate flow at the outlet of the flow restrictor that induces operation of the pilot valve that is favorable for operation of the main valve. In one example, the first region and the second region define, respectively, a first flow area and a second flow area for the flow pathway, wherein each are configured to assign a ratio of the second flow area to the first flow area with a value of less than 10.
Abstract:
An apparatus that is configured to test operation of a gas meter. The apparatus can include a process control member with operative circuitry that provides all functionality necessary to execute the test and to analyze the resulting data. This functionality includes data processing functions and a web server to allow communication between the apparatus and a remote device via a network. In one embodiment, the operative circuitry includes a first circuitry to regulate operation of a fluid moving unit that provides fluid to a meter-under-test. The operative circuitry can also include a second circuitry to collect data from one or more sensors disposed on the meter-under-test. The operative circuitry can also have a third circuitry to perform various operations necessary to calculate, in one example, a value for an operative characteristic that relates to the accuracy of the meter-under-test.
Abstract:
Embodiments of a valve device that reduces noise and vibration that may occur during low flow conditions in fluid couplings (e.g., valves and flow regulators). These embodiments utilize a plug and seat arrangement with geometry to prevent pressure differentials that cause the plug element to open and close in a cyclic pattern. In one embodiment, the valve device includes a seat element with an aperture and a plug element with a boss that extends into the aperture when the plug element contacts the seat element. The boss has an outer surface that forms a gap, which defines an annular area proximate the point of contact between the seat element and the plug element that is sized to reduce Venturi flow effects that cause the cyclic pattern to occur.
Abstract:
A system and method for predicting failure conditions on a valve assembly. The method can include stages for comparing a maintenance variable to a threshold criteria, each related to an operating feature that uses operating data to quantify operation of a valve assembly, the threshold criteria associating an operating pattern found in the operating data with a failure mode on the valve assembly. The method can also include stages for selecting a maintenance task according to a relationship between the maintenance variable and the threshold criteria, the maintenance task related to the failure mode. The method can further include stages for generating an output conveying the maintenance task.
Abstract:
Embodiments of an encoder device and a fluid meter incorporating the encoder device, wherein the fluid meter can embody a gas meter that monitors supply of gas to a consumer. The encoder device is configured to generate a signal with information that quantifies the supply of gas, for example, by associating the movement of a moveable element with a volume of fluid that flows through the gas meter. In one example, the gas meter can include a metrological part with a housing that forms an interior space that wholly encloses the encoder device therein. This embodiment can also be configured with an input/output member that conducts the signal from inside of the interior space to outside of the housing.

Abstract:
Embodiments of a safety device that provides a failsafe mechanism on valve actuator assemblies. This failsafe mechanism operates in the event of power loss, or other problems and/or failures, that prevent operation of the drive components. In one embodiment, the safety device is configured to couple the drive components with the valve stem. During normal operation, this configuration changes the position of the valve stem in response to motive action of the drive components. In the event of power loss, the safety device is configured to operate independent of the drive components to change the position of the valve stem and, thus, move the valve to a closed or “safe” position.
