Abstract:
A method of forming a pattern in a conductive film of the group consisting of indium oxide film, indium tin oxide film, and aluminum film, covering a surface of a substrate of glass or a plastic material. This is accomplished by contacting a metal electrode with the surface of the substrate, and moving the area where the electrode contacts the conductive film at a speed of 5 to 1000 mm/sec while a voltage of 5 to 60 volts is applied between the electrode and the film.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for controlling data communication in a copying system which is provided with a copying machine and a plurality of peripheral units cooperating with the copying machine. The copying machine has a single serial transmitting port. Data from the copying machine is first transmitted to one of the peripheral units through the serial transmitting port. Then, a connection between the serial transmitting port and the one of the peripheral units is electrically switched to a connection between the serial transmitting port and the other of the peripheral units. Thereafter, data from the copying machine is transmitted to the other of the peripheral units through the same serial transmitting port.
Abstract:
A method of orienting a liquid crystal optical device includinga smectic liquid crystal andtwo flexible substrates whichsupport the smectic liquid crystal layer between them andcarry on their surfaces facing each other their respective electrode layers, which method comprises orienting the smectic liquid crystal by subjecting the liquid crystal optical device to a bending treatment.
Abstract:
An electromagnetic proportional flow control valve includes an electromagnetic solenoid having a bobbin with an axial bore and a fixed core in the axial bore. A valve housing defines a first port, a second port and a valve seat fludically positioned between the first and second ports, while a valve is normally in a closing position for closing the valve seat and interrupting fluid communication between the first and second ports. A movable core is fixed to the valve and positioned relative to the electromagnetic solenoid such that the movable core is attracted to the fixed core upon excitation of the electromagnetic solenoid. As a result, the valve may move from the closing position upon excitation of the electromagnetic solenoid to fluidically communicate the first and second ports. An annular diaphragm is positioned between the valve and the electromagnetic solenoid and is sealingly mounted to the movable core so as to form a fluid tight pressure chamber on a side of the diaphragm opposite the valve. A passage in the movable core fluidically communicates the pressure chamber with the second port so that forces acting on the valve due to pressure differences across the valve are cancelled.
Abstract:
A solenoid valve comprises a housing including an inlet port for fluid communication with a positive pressure source and an outlet port for fluid communication with a negative pressure source; a passage for fluid communication between the inlet port and the outlet port; and an axially bi-directional solenoid-actuated valve in the housing for opening and closing the passage, including an electromagnetically movable valve member having a sealing area exposed to the negative pressure from the outlet port when the valve means is in the closed position; and a diaphragm defining a back pressure chamber in fluid communication with the passage for offsetting the effect of the negative pressure on the exposed sealing area and reducing the electromagnetic force required to move the valve member.
Abstract:
A Stirling cycle type engine having five cylinders annularly and equiangularly arranged is disclosed. The expansion chamber of one cylinder is connected to the compression chamber of an adjacent cylinder through a cooler device, a regenerator, and a heater device. The cooler device, regenerator, and heater device are serially stacked and are contained within a cylindrical element. The five cylinders and five cylindrical elements which function as heat exchanging means are supported by a frame having a plurality of plate elements. Each heater device is placed on one of the plate elements adjacent the expansion chamber of one of the cylinders.
Abstract:
An electrically operated fluid control valve unit is associated with a moving-coil linear motor which includes the quantity of fluid flow across the tubular core, a permanent magnet for providing magnetic flux through the tubular core, a permanent magnet for providing magnetic flux through the tubular core, a moving-coil wound on the bobbin across the magnetic flux of the magnet to provide a linear force on the bobbin, and a pair of conductive springs connecting the moving-coil to an electric control circuit and biasing the bobbin toward its initial position. Each of the springs is insulated from one another and from the valve housing, the tubular core and the like to prevent from unexpected short of the springs.
Abstract:
An exhaust gas pressure responsive valve assembly includes a first body of resinous material, a second body of metal material secured to the resinous material, a diaphragm member having an outer periphery held between both of the bodies so as to define an atmospheric chamber on the side of the resinous body and an exhaust gas pressure chamber on the side of the metal body, a spring biasing the diaphragm member against the exhaust gas pressure within the exhaust gas chamber, inlet and outlet ports provided in the resinous body, a passage provided in the resinous body for connecting the inlet and outlet ports, at least one metal plate secured to the diaphragm member, a guide member of resinous material secured to the metal plate, and a valve mechanism arranged within the guide member for controlling fluid communication between the passage and the atmospheric chamber in response to movement of the diaphragm.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a diagnostic agent for eating disorders comprising as an active ingredient an antibody against brain-derived neurotrophic factor, and a method for detecting eating disorders comprising measuring of the concentration of a brain-derived neurotrophic factor in blood. Particularly, the eating disorders can easily be diagnosed by measuring the concentration of a brain-derived neurotrophic factor in blood of the patients with an antibody against brain-derived neurotrophic factor and a labeled antibody against brain-derived neurotrophic factor.
