Abstract: A multichamber cuvette for maintaining in independent and separate condition at least two reactants until such time that it is desired to mix them for reaction with each other and a reactant liquid sample while in the cuvette for analysis in the cuvette, and a method of use of such cuvette. There is provided a cuvette body of a suitable plastic defining at least two chambers interconnected by a passageway of relatively small cross section having at least the end portions thereof of capillary size to prevent under many circumstances, as by surface tension, accidental mixture of liquid reactants in the chambers. If there is a substantial head of liquid in one chamber and/or a risk of impact of the cuvette with an external foreign object, sufficient to break such surface tension, an air lock in the passageway when the latter is below the liquid levels in the chambers prevents such accidental mixture. A baffle in the passageway enhances separation of liquids and/or solid substances in the chambers. The chambers are open-topped, and a unitary probe-wiping multi-ply laminated cover of a type puncturable by a probe extends over the chambers closing them from the external environment. The laminated cover tends to be self-closing with reference to such punctures. One ply is of metal foil to act as a vapor seal and has an undercoating of a heat sealable material compatible with the body material and sealed thereto. The top ply is of a moisture-absorbent material which is secured to the foil ply by an intermediate plastic ply.

Abstract: An oil filter is formed from a pair of concentric wire frame cylinders having a cylinder of filter paper positioned between them. The filter paper is preferably made from fiber of 100 percent mercerized wood pulp, saturated by a melamineformaldehyde resin, which is 30 percent by weight. The preferred paper is 32.0 mils thick with an A.C. oil flow test of 150 secs/1,000cc and a Frazier Air Flow of 2.4 cubic feet per square foot of filter material, at a differential pressure of one-half inch of water. The maximum pore size is such that the bubble point is reached at a pressure of 40 inches of water.

Abstract: A high pressure butterfly valve having a pressure actuatable valve element that is flexed by fluid pressure to enhance the sealing ability of the valve in direct proportion to the pressure of the fluid controlled by the valve. The butterfly valve of this invention incorporates an annular seat element retained within the valve body by an upper valve actuating stem and a lower trunnion. A concavo-convex butterfly valve element is rotatably carried by the trunnion and valve actuating stem with the convex surface thereof facing upstream in the closed position. The valve element is capable of flexing responsive to application of fluid pressure in this manner as to expand the peripheral sealing surfaces thereof and enhance the mechanical sealing pressure as fluid pressure increases. The butterfly element also floats relative to the trunnion and valve stem thereby allowing the valve element to float or self-align itself to obtain optimum sealing engagement as pressure is applied by the fluid controlled by the valve.

Abstract: A mail sorting apparatus having an operator''s console equipped with key-operated switches has a selector section positioned intermediate a mail or parcel propelling device and a diverter section which includes sorted mail receiving trays.
