摘要: A system for dehydrating lubricating and hydraulic fluids includes a heating circuit and circuitry for creating a vacuum. The heating circuitry introduces a stream of heated fluid into a vacuum chamber in which a partial vacuum is drawn by the vacuum circuit. Aqueous components of the fluid stream are flashed in the vacuum chamber by virtue of the elevated temperature and reduced pressure. Dehydrated fluid is then collected and evacuated from the vacuum chamber. Vapor from the vacuum chamber, including the aqueous components of the fluid stream are collected, condensed and separately evacuated. The heating circuit limits surface temperature of a heating element in a closed-loop manner to avoid degradation of the fluid. The fluid stream is introduced into the vacuum chamber or is recirculated through the heating circuit to maintain a desired level of fluid temperature in a closed-loop manner. The system includes circuits for evacuating dehydrated fluid in a closed-loop manner and for automatically discharging condensate. The technique avoids undesirable foaming of dehydrated fluid within the vacuum chamber. A vacuum pulsing circuit is provided for periodically pulsing vacuum pressure within the vacuum chamber to aid in flashing aqueous components from the heated fluid stream.

摘要: A system is provided for closed-loop control of a plurality of metering pumps driven by a single source of pressurized fluid. Feedback signals are generated that are proportional to output flow rate from each metering pump, such as velocity of a movable element of the pump with respect to a stationary element. Flow control valves are coupled between the source of pressurized fluid and the metering pumps. A controller receives the feedback signals and regulates flow from the flow control valves to each metering pump to maintain a desired level of output flow. The source of pressurized fluid may include a pressure compensated positive displacement pump having a maximum output flow rate at least equal to the anticipated combined flow rate of drive sections of the metering pumps.

摘要: A system for metering a fluid, such as a catalyst in an industrial chemical process plant, includes a controller, a drive pump assembly and an injection pump assembly. The drive pump assembly forces reciprocation of the injection pump assembly via a controlled flow of hydraulic fluid. The injection pump assembly includes a drive cylinder and at least one injection section. The drive cylinder receives pressurized fluid from the drive pump assembly and causes metered fluid to be drawn into and expelled by the injection section. The position of reciprocating components of the injection pump assembly is detected between stroke limits and converted to a velocity signal. Closed-loop control of the flow from the injection pump assembly is implemented by the controller via the drive pump assembly based upon the actual velocity of the reciprocating components of the injection pump assembly and a commanded velocity. The closed-loop injection rate control may be incorporated in a nested fashion with a process parameter control loop to maintain a desired level of a process parameter, such as temperature in a reaction vessel.

摘要: Methods for determining quantities of nucleic acid sequences in samples include the steps of amplifying a plurality of known quantities of a nucleic acid sequence in respective calibration samples and an unknown quantity of a nucleic acid sequence in a test sample, in parallel, during a time interval. These samples may be amplified using an isothermal amplification method such as Strand Displacement Amplification (SDA), or a thermal cycling amplification method such as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), for example. Indicia of the quantities of a nucleic acid sequence being amplified in the calibration and test samples are then measured using conventional techniques, at measurement points in the time interval. Steps are then performed to determine for a first potential cutoff level, a corresponding first set of time points in the time interval at which the indicia of the quantities of a nucleic acid sequence being amplified in each of the calibration samples equal the first cutoff level. This step is then repeated for each of a number of different potential cutoff levels so that respective sets of time points in the time interval can be obtained for each potential cutoff level. According to a preferred aspect of the present invention, a step is then performed to determine, relative to a statistical criterion, which of the sets of points in the time interval better satisfies the statistical criterion against the known quantities of a nucleic acid sequence in the calibration samples. A quantity of a nucleic acid sequence in the test sample is then determined based on the set of points determined to better or best satisfy the statistical criterion. The accuracy of the determination can also be improved using a relatively large number of potential cutoff levels.

摘要: A game of skill playable both indoors and outdoors includes two flat circular target boards, the upper surface of which are covered with a deep pile fabric. The game also includes toroidal-shaped throwing rings having a flexible cover and filled loosely with a quantity of small weights such as pebbles. Strips of fabric hook material having an abundance of tiny protruding hooks adapted to engage the pile of the target board covering material are attached to the upper and lower annular surfaces of each throwing ring. When a ring is cast upon a distant target board, the hooks protruding from the ring become entangled with strands of the fabric covering of the target board, adhering the ring to the board. Movement of the weights within the throwing ring produces an oscillation-damping action which minimizes any tendency of the ring to bounce off the target board after impact.
