摘要: A method of providing papilloma virus like particles which may be used for diagnostic purposes or for incorporation in a vaccine for use in relation to infections caused by papilloma virus. The method includes an initial step of constructing one or more recombinant DNA molecules which each encode papilloma virus L1 protein or a combination of papilloma virus L1 protein and papilloma virus L2 protein followed by a further step of transfecting a suitable host cell with one or more of the recombinant DNA molecules so that virus like particles (VLPs) are produced within the cell after expression of the L1 or combination of L1 and L2 proteins. The VLPs are also claimed per se as well as vaccines incorporating the VLPs.

摘要: A method and apparatus for providing multi-panel rate control of real-time video digital encoders such as an MPEG or H series including the steps of bit allocation, rate control and adaptive quantization. Bit allocation assigns a target number of bits per group of pictures, and per picture of each type. Rate control adjusts the quantization parameter at the MB level to achieve that target number of bits per picture. Adaptive quantization further modulates the parameter per MB using local activity measure. Bit allocation and rate control can be implemented through a central control unit, or a central digital signal processor (DSP) while adaptive quantization can be implemented at the local panel.

摘要: A method and apparatus for selecting a coding mode for a block of a current picture are disclosed. For example, the method selects a coding mode in accordance with a cost function, for coding the block, wherein the cost function comprises a coding distortion parameter and a number of coding bits parameter, wherein said coding distortion parameter is measured in accordance with at least one of: between a prediction residual and a reconstructed prediction residual, or between a transformed prediction residual and a dequantized transformed prediction residual, wherein the number of coding bits parameter is computed in accordance with at least one of: from a true number of compressed bits resulting from coding said block, directly from a plurality of bins, or directly from a plurality of quantized transform coefficients.

摘要: The present invention is a composition for forming seals. The composition includes a base material and a hydrogel. The base materials is preferably an elastomer or a thermoplastic. Seals formed with the composition are particularly suited for use in a wellbore environment. The inclusion of hydrogel in the seals allows the seals to be manipulated or altered through certain environmental factors. For instance, temperature, oil/water ratio, pH and the electronic field may all be used to alter the characteristics of the hydrogel. In this way, the seal may be caused to swell in response to a specific stimulus, thereby preventing or sealing a leak without requiring additional work or input from the operator.

摘要: A single mode fiber is provided which is suitable for high-speed, large-capacity optical communication and for optical wiring. The single mode fiber has a first cladding region with a uniform refractive index, a core region with a refractive index higher than that of the first cladding region, and a second cladding region including at least four air hole regions placed in the first cladding region. Optimization can be achieved by making the distance from the center of the core region to the air hole regions equal to 2–4.5 times the core radius, and the air hole radius equal to or greater than 0.2 times the core radius. It is preferable the core radius be 3.7–4.8 μm, the relative index difference of the core region from the first cladding region be 0.3–0.55 %.
