摘要： The present invention discloses a system and method for providing a rate control to an encoder, e.g., a H.264/MPEG-4 AVC compliant encoder. For example, the rate control method computes a target group of pictures (GOP) rate for a GOP of the input image sequence. The rate control method then computes a target rate per picture from the target GOP rate. In one embodiment, the target rate comprises at least one of: a frame picture target rate and a field picture target rate, wherein the field picture target rate is computed in accordance with two complexity measures for two predicted (P) fields, one complexity measure for one intra (I) field and one complexity measure for one bi-predicted (B) field.

摘要： A StatMux system and method are provided for efficiently allocating time slots on the transmission channel between bit streams representing video and bit streams representing data. By providing such a system and method, when a decreased number of data bits need to be transmitted, a decreased number of time slots may be allocated for transmitting the data bits and an increased number of time slots may be allocated for transmitting video bits. When a decreased number of video bits needs to be transmitted, a decreased number of time slots may be allocated for transmitting video bits and an increased number of time slots may be allocated for transmitting data bits.

摘要： A method and apparatus for providing multi-panel rate control of real-time video digital encoders such as an MPEG or H series including the steps of bit allocation, rate control and adaptive quantization. Bit allocation assigns a target number of bits per group of pictures, and per picture of each type. Rate control adjusts the quantization parameter at the MB level to achieve that target number of bits per picture. Adaptive quantization further modulates the parameter per MB using local activity measure. Bit allocation and rate control can be implemented through a central control unit, or a central digital signal processor (DSP) while adaptive quantization can be implemented at the local panel.

摘要： In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a prediction unit (PU) for a coding unit (CU) of the video content. The method analyzes the prediction unit to determine a size of prediction unit. A size of a transform unit is determined based on the size of the prediction unit based on a set of rules. The set of rules specify the size of the transform unit is linked to the size of prediction unit and not a size of the coding unit. The method then outputs the size of the transform unit for use in a transform operation.
