    Abstract: A method includes measuring beam-formed reference signals transmitted by a plurality of mmWave transmission points (TPs), sending a cloud cell formation request including indicators associated with best mmWave TPs determined in accordance with the measured beam-formed reference signals, receiving a cloud cell formation request response including indicators associated with a subset of the best mmWave TPs selected by a central controller in accordance with selection information, where the subset of the best mmWave TPs includes a first mmWave transmission point (TP) serving as a master TP and a second mmWave TP serving as a slave TP, and establishing a cloud cell with mmWave TPs of the subset of the best mmWave TPs selected by the central controller, where a data connection is established with the slave TP and at least a control connection is established with the master TP.

    Abstract: A communication device includes a level one (L1) processing element configured to measure downlink (DL) reference signals from multiple beams received via a transceiver to generate L1 data describing the multiple beams. The device also includes a level two (L2) processing element configured to consolidate, select, or filter the multiple beams responsive to the L1 data to produce L2 data corresponding to one or more of the multiple beams in a first cell that are consistent with preconfigured parameters. Furthermore, the device includes a level three (L3) processing element coupled to the L1 and L2 processing elements and configured to generate L3 data corresponding to one or more of the multiple beams in each of the first cell and a second cell. The device also includes a report generator coupled to the L1, L2 and L3 processing elements and configured to generate a report for a mobility event.

    Abstract: A method for controlling an uplink signal transmit power at the user equipment and a UE configured to perform such a method are disclosed. In an embodiment, the method includes receiving a downlink reference signal transmit power associated with a first resource indicator, a downlink reference signal transmit beamforming gain associated with a second resource indicator, an uplink signal receive beamforming gain associated with a third resource indicator, and an uplink signal target receive power associated with a fourth resource indicator and transmitting an uplink signal associated with a fifth resource indicator to a transmission point with a transmit power calculated based on the combination, wherein the downlink reference signal transmit power associated with the first resource indicator and the downlink reference signal transmit beamforming gain associated with the second resource indicator are signaled together as a single metric associated with a sixth resource indicator.

    Abstract: Embodiments of this disclosure provide techniques for determining a device's beam correspondence status. As used herein, a device is considered to have “beam correspondence” when the device's TX and RX antennas satisfy a calibration criteria. In one example, a device's TX and RX antennas satisfy the calibration criteria when a difference between quality parameters corresponding to reference signals transmitted and received using corresponding TX and RX beams is less than a threshold. In another example, a device's TX and RX antennas satisfy the calibration criteria when a list of indices ranking the device's TX beams matches a list of indices ranking the device's RX beams. The lists of indices may be derived by transmitting and receiving references signals according to the devices RX and TX beams, and then generating list of indices based on quality parameters of the respective RX and TX beams.
