A two-dimensional image detecting device is provided with an active-matrix substrate including electrode wires, switching elements, and pixel electrodes; and an opposing substrate including electrode sections and a semiconductive layer. The substrates are disposed such that pixel electrodes and a semiconductive layer oppose each other, and are electrically connected with each other via a conductive material. Projecting electrodes are formed in accordance with the pixel electrodes on a connecting surface of at least one of the active-matrix substrate and the opposing substrate. An exterior wall is formed by a sealing material at an edge of the connecting surface so as to shut off a space between the substrates. With this arrangement, spaces among the projecting electrodes are sealed from the outside; thus, when air in the outside is allowed to be pressurized, it is possible to apply the same pressure as an external pressure due to a pressure difference between the outside and the space between the bonding surfaces of the substrates. Consequently, the active-matrix substrate and the opposing substrate can be connected to each other with high reliability.

In a method of the present invention for fabricating a two-dimensional image detector in which a light/radiations detection element is applied, an upper electrode, a first charge blocking layer, and a semiconductor layer having photoconductivity are provided on support substrate in the stated order, and thereafter, a surface of the semiconductor layer is sprayed with ceramic particles by means of an abrasive grain jet nozzle. The abrasive grain jet nozzle repeatedly makes a high-speed reciprocating motion in an X direction at constant cycles while jetting the ceramic particles to the entirety of the surface of the semiconductor layer of the counter substrate moving in a Y direction, so that the surface of the semiconductor layer is subjected to a flattening treatment. This enables to provide a two-dimensional image detector in which a light/radiations detection element that provides effective improvement of a charge blocking effect and suppression of deterioration of reliability is applied.

A liquid crystal panel in accordance with the present invention has a structure of connected substrate composed of a single unit electrode substrate and a plurality of small substrates combined with the single unit electrode substrate via a sealant. A connected portion of the plurality of small substrates is filled with an adhesive, and the adhesive is also applied on an entire surface of the plurality of small substrates, that is, on a surface of the electrode substrates having a connected structure. A flexible coating layer covering the plurality of small substrates is attached via the adhesive. The coating layer may be attached via the adhesive to a single multi-panel composed of a plurality of divided liquid crystal panels connected to one another on the sides where the plurality of divided liquid crystal panels constitute a pair of electrode substrates sandwitching a liquid crystal layer. With these arrangements, the connected portion does not become noticeable by the adhesive protruding from the connected portion, thus realizing high quality displaying.

A method of manufacturing a multi-panel liquid crystal display device prepared by connecting a liquid crystal multi-panel having a plurality of display surfaces to a reinforcing substrate includes the steps of: (a) forming a pattern of a seal material on at least one of a surface of the liquid crystal multi-panel and a surface of the reinforcing substrate; (b) connecting the liquid crystal multi-panel and the reinforcing substrate via the seal material; (c) injecting a bonding material into a spacing formed by the liquid crystal multi-panel, the reinforcing substrate and the seal material; and (d) hardening the bonding material. The described method permits the amount of use of the bonding material required for connecting the liquid crystal multi-panel and the reinforcing substrate to be minimized. As a result, the need of wasting or refining the excessive bonding material can be eliminated, thereby reducing a manufacturing cost.

A liquid crystal display apparatus has a junction panel obtained by joining a plurality of liquid crystal display panels so that display surfaces of the liquid crystal display panels become flush. The liquid crystal display panels each have picture elements for displaying images by transmitting and shielding a transmitting light, a black matrix for shielding a light which enters a position where the picture elements do not exist and a zonal sealing member for sealing liquid crystal into each picture element. A width of the sealing member on the junction surface where the liquid crystal display panels are joined is set so as to be narrower than a width of the black matrix. Joints of displayed images on a border of the liquid crystal display panels of the junction panel can be made inconspicuous, and quality of displayed images on the junction panel which is a big screen can be improved.

Since the fine line seal member is accurately provided in the vicinity of the pixel, when the liquid crystal display apparatus is made by connecting a plurality of such liquid crystal display panels, it is possible to provide the liquid crystal display apparatus in which the connecting part is not noticeable and the displaying quality is excellent.
