摘要： An ink jet recording apparatus comprises a detachably mountable ink jet cartridge including an ink jet recording head for ejecting ink into a recording medium and an ink supply source containing ink for supply to the recording apparatus, which ink supply source has electrodes for passing an electric current through the ink in said ink supply source. A resistance-determining circuit determines a reference resistance between the electrodes by applying an electric current thereto when the ink jet cartridge is mounted to the apparatus and determines a test resistance between the electrodes by applying the same electric current thereto after a predetermined amount of recording. The reference resistance is used to calculate a threshold resistance, which is stored for comparison to the test resistance to judge whether or not the amount of ink in the ink supply source has dropped to a level unsuitable for recording.

摘要： A replaceable ink cartridge, usable with a bubble jet printer, includes a container having front, back, top bottom and side walls, the container being divided internally into a first chamber and a second chamber having a common partition extending downward perpendicularly toward the bottom wall to provide an opening between the chambers formed by the partition proximate to the bottom wall. The first chamber contains a reservoir of liquid ink and is generally sealed from ambient air except through the opening, and the second chamber has an air vent for admitting ambient air into the second chamber and an ink supply outlet in the front wall. The second chamber contains a sponge-like material for retaining ink, at least one groove in the second chamber side of the partition extending from the opening and terminating at a point partly up the partition to form an air flow passage from the second chamber to the first chamber, the sponge-like material being positioned in the second chamber to permit flow of air from the air vent to the groove when the level of retained ink in the sponge-like material is proximate to the point where the groove terminates. The container is removably mountable in a printer mounting with the bottom wall facing downward and the ink supply outlet facing an ink jet print head so that the ink supply outlet is connectable to an ink port of the ink jet print head.

摘要： An ink jet recording device having scanning means for scanning an ink jet recording head having plural arrays in a scanning direction, wherein each of the arrays has discharge ports such that each of the arrays discharges a different color ink, supplying means for supplying recording signals corresponding to a first recording area to plural of ink discharge energy generating elements, conveying means for conveying a recording medium relative to the recording head, and control means for controlling the ink jet recording head, the supplying means and conveying means so that when the control means operates in a first recording mode, a recording covering the first recording area is produced by one of the arrays during one scanning operation, and when the control means operates in a second recording mode a recording covering a second recording area which is smaller than the first recording area is produced by each of the arrays during one scanning operation. The control means selects the recording mode at least according to a number of colors of an image to be recorded on the recording medium and the second recording area produced by respective arrays during the one scanning operation are not overlapped in the scanning direction.

A high-quality color image free from time difference nonuniformity, and density nonuniformity caused by, e.g., variations of recording elements is obtained at high speed.

摘要： A replaceable ink cartridge, usable with a bubble jet printer, comprises a container formed by front, back, top and bottom walls, and two side walls providing major surfaces of said container, with a partition dividing the container into first and second chambers communicating with each other through an opening formed by the partition proximate to the bottom wall. The first chamber, which is generally sealed from ambient air except through the opening, contains a reservoir of liquid ink, and the second chamber contains a sponge-like material for producing a negative pressure whereby ink is deliverable from the first chamber through the opening to an ink supply outlet in the front wall proximate to the bottom wall. The partition has at least one groove for forming an air flow passage from the second chamber to the first chamber through the opening, thereby permitting introduction of air into the first chamber and flow of liquid ink to the ink supply outlet through the opening. The container is removably mountable in a printer mounting with the bottom wall facing downward and the front wall facing an ink jet print head so that the ink supply outlet is connectable to an ink port of the print head.

摘要： An ink jet head cartridge includes an ink jet head unit having an ink passage in which an energy generating element for generating energy used to discharge ink is disposed, and an ink tank adapted to store the ink to be fed to the ink passage and having a vent opening for permitting the interior of the ink tank to communicate with the atmosphere and being formed integrally with the ink jet head unit. In the ink jet cartridge an area where an ink absorber is disposed, and an air area at least a part of which is defined by a tubular member and which is filled with air, are formed in an internal space of the ink tank, and a porous member is disposed in an air passage extending from the air area to the vent opening. An ink tank can be incorporated into the above-mentioned ink jet head cartridge, and an ink jet recording apparatus utilizing the above-mentioned ink jet head cartridge can be provided.
