    摘要: A variable speed electric machine and a method for generating electric energy is provided. The electric machine includes an outer stator with a first set of field windings. Further, the electric machine includes a modulator outer rotor that is concentric and is located proximate to the outer stator. The modulator outer rotor is operatively coupled to an input shaft. Furthermore the electric machine includes a permanent magnet inner rotor concentric to the modulator outer rotor. The electric machine also includes an inner stator with a second set of field windings. The inner stator is concentric to the inner rotor and is operatively coupled to an electric grid. The outer stator, the modulator outer rotor, inner stator and the inner rotor are magnetically coupled with each other so as to maintain a constant electric frequency at the inner stator.

    摘要: A permanent magnet machine includes a stator having a stator core, a plurality of stator teeth and plurality of stator windings coupled to the stator core. The stator is configured to generate a stator magnetic rotating field when the stator windings are excited with an electric current. The stator magnetic rotating field includes both synchronous sub-harmonic and super-harmonic components. The permanent magnet machine also includes a rotor that is disposed within the stator. The rotor includes a rotor core and a plurality of rotor magnets that are coupled to the rotor core. The rotor magnets are further configured to have a predefined orientation profile such that when the stator windings are excited with an electric current, sub-harmonic and super-harmonic magnetic rotating fields are generated in the rotor magnetic field. The stator sub-harmonic and super-harmonic magnetic rotating fields interact with the rotor sub-harmonic and super-harmonic magnetic rotating fields and produce an aiding torque on in the permanent magnet machine.

The IPM machine also includes a rotor assembly and a rotor core. The rotor core is disposed inside the cavity and configured to rotate about the longitudinal axis. The rotor assembly further includes a shaft. The shaft further includes multiple protrusions alternately arranged relative to multiple bottom structures provided on the shaft. The rotor assembly also includes multiple stacks of laminations disposed on the protrusions and dovetailed circumferentially around the shaft. The rotor assembly further includes multiple permanent magnets for generating a magnetic field, which interacts with the stator magnetic field to produce torque. The permanent magnets are disposed between the stacks. The rotor assembly also includes multiple bottom wedges disposed on the bottom structures of the shaft and configured to hold the multiple stacks and the multiple permanent magnets.

    摘要: A permanent magnet (PM) machine has a reconfigurable fault condition mechanism disposed solely within a stator core portion, wherein the mechanism is automatically reconfigurable to reduce fault currents associated with the PM machine during a fault condition. The reconfigurable fault condition mechanism is automatically reconfigurable to also reduce internal heat associated with the PM machine during a fault condition. A method of reconfiguring the fault condition mechanism upon detection of a fault condition includes the steps of 1) selecting the reconfigurable fault condition mechanism from a) a plurality of rotatable magnetically anisotropic cylinders disposed within stator core slots, b) a plurality of ferrofluid-fillable cavities associated with stator core slots, and c) a sliding shield within the stator core; and 2) reconfiguring the fault condition mechanism to automatically reduce fault currents associated with the PM machine upon detection of a fault condition.
