    摘要: Systems and a method for routing optical signals are disclosed. One system includes a first large core hollow metal waveguide configured to guide a substantially coherent optical beam. A second large core hollow waveguide is optically coupled to the first waveguide with a coupling device. The coupling device is configured to divide the coherent optical beam into a transmitted beam and a reflected beam. Beam walk-off within the coupling device causes the transmitted beam to be shifted by an offset amount. The second large core hollow metal waveguide is shifted from the first large core hollow metal waveguide by approximately the offset amount to receive the shifted transmitted beam.

    摘要: A monolithically integrated, self-aligning, optical-fiber ferrule for a pigtailed opto-electronic module. The ferrule includes a body, a cavity defined within the body, a lateral alignment structure, and an optical-fiber stop. The cavity is to accept and align an optical fiber with an end of the cavity to face an optical aperture of an opto-electronic component. The lateral alignment structure is to self-align laterally the optical fiber with the optical aperture. The optical-fiber stop is coupled to the body, to self-align vertically the optical fiber. The body, the cavity, the lateral alignment structure and the optical-fiber stop are integrated together as a portion of a monolithically integrated chip. A system and a pigtailed opto-electronic engine that include the ferrule are also provided.

    摘要: Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to optical interconnects. In one embodiment of the present invention, an optical interconnect comprises a laser configured to output an optical signal and a laser-diode driver electronically coupled to the laser. The laser-diode driver induces the laser to output the optical signal in response to an electrical signal received by the laser-diode driver. The optical interconnect includes a diffractive optical element and a plurality of photodetectors. The optical interconnect is positioned to receive the optical signal and configured to split the optical signal into a plurality of optical signals, and each photodetector converts one of the plurality of optical signals into an electrical signal that is output on a separate signal line.
