Abstract: Methods and systems for preventing or delaying handovers to target access nodes that are experiencing intermodulation distortion. Ensuring service quality in dual-connectivity (EN-DC) wireless networks includes determining that a target access node for a handover of a wireless device is experiencing an intermodulation distortion level that exceeds a first threshold, and adjusting handover thresholds to delay the handover of the wireless device to the target access node. If the handover is necessary, dual-connectivity is disabled for the wireless device.

Abstract: A system may include an access node to deploy a radio air interface to provide wireless services to one or more wireless devices. The access node may include processing circuitry. The processing circuitry of the access node may monitor a round-trip-time of split-mode communication of a dual connectivity access-node-pair. The processing circuitry of the access node may dynamically adjust one or more handover parameters based on the round-trip-time. The handover parameters may be adjusted to inhibit handovers to the dual connectivity access-node-pair.

Abstract: A method for initiating handover of a wireless device includes identifying a wireless device exhibiting a low power headroom, the wireless device being attached to an access node on a first frequency band, determining a first incidence of packet drops associated with a data transmission from the wireless device on the first frequency band at a cell site router, and determining a second incidence of packet drops associated with another data transmission on a second frequency band of the access node at the cell site router. Based at least in part on the first incidence of packet drops being greater than the second incidence of packet drops, handover of the wireless device from the first frequency band to the second frequency band is initiated. Systems and devices relate to initiating handover of a wireless device.

Abstract: One or more elements of a communication system receives a first indicator that a first wireless device is within a first coverage area of a first access node and is also within a second coverage area of a second access node. The first access node and the second access node are both configured to provide a multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) operating mode. The communication system determines a first number of wireless devices attached to the first access node that are utilizing the MU-MIMO operating mode. The communication system identifies the first wireless devices as being configured as a relay node. The communication system, based on the first number meeting a first threshold, instructs the first wireless device to attach to the second access node.

Abstract: A system for mitigating interference and improving performance of wireless devices within a sector is in a cellular network is described. The cellular network provides a first and second radio access technology (RAT). The system includes an access node having a processor performing multiple operations. The operations include determining that interference associated with the first RAT within the sector exceeds a threshold interference value and comparing a performance metric of the wireless devices to a predetermined value to determine if the performance metric is below the predetermined value. Upon determination that the performance metric is below the predetermined value and the interference exceeds a threshold value, the processor dynamically limits a number of wireless devices operating using the first RAT within the sector.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments described herein include systems, methods, and processing nodes for performing load balancing in a wireless network based on a load of a relay node communicatively coupled to a donor access node. Exemplary methods described herein include determining that a traffic load on a relay node meets a threshold, wherein the relay node is configured to relay traffic between an access node and a first one or more wireless devices attached to the relay node, and attempting to offload a second one or more wireless devices attached to the access node and located at a cell edge of the access node.

Abstract: A wireless network may have two types of wireless services such as 4G and 5G. The 4G service may not be configured to communicate with wireless devices using multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) operating mode, while the 5G service can communicate using MU-MIMO. When a relay node is positioned such that it is within the coverage areas of both types of wireless service, the relay node is instructed to attach to the wireless service that is not capable of utilizing the MU-MIMO operating mode. Conversely, wireless devices within the coverage areas of both types of wireless service that are not configured as relay nodes may be instructed to attach to the wireless service capable of utilizing the MU-MIMO operating mode so that these wireless devices may receive the benefit of utilizing MU-MIMO.
