The present invention relates to a process for preparing a hard transparent resin comprising polymerizing a monomer (A) having both a functional group of the following formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X is selected from the group consisting of an oxygen atom and a sulfur atom,and a functional group selected from the group consisting of a functional group of the formula (II):CH.sub.2 CR--COO-- (II)wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl group,and a functional group of the formula (III): ##STR2## The invention also provides a process for preparing a transparent resin comprising copolymerizing monomer (A) with a monomer (B) having at least one functional group selected from the group consisting ofCH.sub.2 .dbd.CHCOO--,CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(CH.sub.3)--COO--, and ##STR3## This resin can be suitably used as a glazing material, and in the manufacture of optical lenses, optical information recording medium substrates, etc. It has a crosslinked structure, high surface hardness, and may be easily polymerized.

Blue-colored bioabsorbable surgical fibers are obtained by adding and dispersing a bioabsorbable polymer, which is selected from polyglycolic acid, poly(l-lactic acid) and glycolic acid-l-lactic acid copolymers all of which are useful as surgical fibers, and indigo in a non-aqueous organic solvent having low solubility for the polymer and indigo, heating the resultant dispersion at a temperature below 120.degree. C. to distill off the solvent, thereby to obtain a master batch with the indigo incorporated therein at a high concentration, mixing and kneading the master batch with a fresh supply of the polymer, and then spinning the resultant polymer mixture.

Disclosed herein are a resin for high-refractivity lenses, formed by copolymerizing at least one carbonate compound represented by the general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X is a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom, and R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group with at least one unifunctional monomer represented by the general formula (II): ##STR2## wherein R' is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and Y represents ##STR3## wherein X' is a chlorine or bromine atom, q is an integer of 0-5, and r is 0 or 1 as well as high-refractivity lenses made of such a resin.The lens-making resin according to this invention has a high refractive index, is excellent in processability such as grinding processability, thermal resistance, solvent resistance and impact resistance. Moreover, it features outstanding miscibility between the unifunctional monomer and the carbonate upon copolymerization thereof, and minimized polymerization strain.

A light source apparatus has two or more light sources that have different light-emission spectra and that can be controlled independently, and also has light sensors for detecting the quantity of light emitted by the light sources. The light sensors are composed of one type of light sensor that is not provided with a color filter for selecting the wavelength of received light, and the light sensors are sensitive to wavelength ranges that are sufficiently broad to simultaneously receive light in red, green, and blue wavelength ranges. A control circuit controls the two or more light sources to emit light in a time sequential fashion, and compares reference data with the output values of the light sensors to control the quantity of light emitted by the light sources by means of a light source drive circuit. It is thereby possible to reduce the cost and size of a light source apparatus that is capable of correcting changes in hue.
