Disclosed herein are a method and systems for cumene hydroperoxide cleavage with an improved configuration for online instrumentation. The systems comprise a first fluid loop comprising one or more reactors and a fluid pump and a second fluid loop in fluid communication with the first fluid loop. This second fluid loop comprises an instrument configured to measure a characteristic of a fluid flowing through the second loop, wherein an input of the second fluid loop is disposed downstream of said fluid pump and an output of the second fluid loop is disposed upstream of said fluid pump. The method comprises causing fluid to flow within a first stage comprising one or more reactors and a fluid pump, wherein the first stage is configured to decompose a cumene hydroperoxide in the presence of a catalyst mixture to form a dicumyl peroxide mixture. The method also comprises causing at least a portion of the fluid to flow through a instrumentation line in open fluid communication with the first stage. This instrumentation line comprises an instrument configured to measure a characteristic of the fluid flowing through the instrumentation line and an input of the instrument line is disposed downstream of said fluid pump.

The solid acid catalyst enables oxidation of the substrate with a high conversion. This solid acid catalyst for oxygen-ozone-coexisting oxidation is a solid acid catalyst for use in an oxidation reaction to oxidize a substrate (A) in the coexistence of oxygen and ozone. The solid acid catalyst includes a transition metal in the form of an elementary substance, a compound, or an ion, and a support supporting the transition metal. The support includes, at least in its surface, a strong acid or super strong acid having a Hammett acidity function (H0) of −9 or less. A method for synthesis of nanocomposites using polymerized carbon nanotubes and phenolic compounds, such as 2,4-dichlorophenol, 4-nitrophenol, 2-nitrophenol, 4-chlorophenol, 2,4,6-trinitrophenol and phenol, in aqueous media, as well as the application of one of such nanocomposites, namely MWCNT-g-PCA-Phenol, as a DNA extraction agent. The aforementioned nanocomposites enable the isolation of genomic DNA of plant samples. Pursuant to the present invention, the toxicity of free phenols used in DNA extraction is decreased since very low concentrations of phenol are required in the method, as compared to conventional techniques which employ saturated phenol solutions. This remarkable advantage is due to the encapsulation of the phenol nanoparticles into the polymerized carbon nanotubes.

A method for the depolymerization of lignin includes the steps of: providing a black liquor obtained from the treatment of delignification of the biomass, concentrating the black liquor; and subjecting the concentrated black liquor to a hydrothermal treatment. An acid is added to the reaction mixture obtained in the previous step, and then the precipitate is separated from the liquid phase resulting in the previous step. Finally, the method includes the step of extracting, from the recovered liquid phase, the aromatic products of depolymerization of lignin, such as phenol, cresols, catechol and the derivatives thereof (3-methylcatechol, 4-methylcatechol and 4-ethylcatechol).

This specification discloses an operational continuous process to convert lignin as found in ligno-cellulosic biomass before or after converting at least some of the carbohydrates. The process comprises thermally treating the ligno-cellulosic biomass and then subjecting the thermally treated ligno-cellulosic biomass to a step of fiber shives reduction to produce a low viscosity slurry. The continuous process has been demonstrated to create slurry, raise the slurry to ultra high pressures, deoxygenate the lignin in a reactor over a catalyst which not a fixed bed without producing char. The conversion products of the carbohydrates or lignin can be further processed into polyester intermediates for use in polyester preforms and bottles.

A process for making phenol and/or cyclohexanone comprises: (A) oxidizing a cyclohexylbenzene feed to obtain an oxidation product comprising cyclohexylbenzene, cyclohexyl-1-phenyl-1-hydroperoxide and phenol; (B) separating at least a portion of the oxidation product to obtain a first fraction comprising cyclohexyl-1-phenyl-1-hydroperoxide and a second fraction comprising cyclohexylbenzene and phenol; (C) removing at least a portion of the phenol from at least a portion of the second fraction to obtain a third fraction; (D) recycling at least a portion of the cyclohexylbenzene in the third fraction to the oxidizing step (A); and (E) contacting at least a portion of the cyclohexyl-1-phenyl-1-hydroperoxide in the first fraction with an acid catalyst in a cleavage reactor under cleavage conditions to obtain a cleavage product comprising phenol and cyclohexanone.
