摘要: Decoders A and B decode MPEG-2 bitstreams A and B. A switch (S1) switches from decoded stream A to decoded stream B to achieve a splice. The resulting bitstream is re-encoded in an encoder 4. A new transitional GOP is defined beginning at the splice. The new GOP is defined by picture type decision rules which may have the effect of changing the GOP compared to the GOPs of streams A and B. The new GOP provides an initial prediction of the position in stream B where the occupancy value of stream C should coincide with that of B. A target for the new number of bits in the new GOP is calculated as the sum of the normal allocation of bits for the new GOP plus the difference between the occupancy value of stream C at the splice and a prediction of the occupancy of stream B at the predicted position. The occupancy value of stream C is controlled in accordance with the target so that it tends towards the occupancy value of stream B at the predicted position.The target is updated regularly throughout the GOP on I and P frames. After the first update at the beginning of the transitional GOP, the target changes at the updates nominally by an amount VBV—diff which is the difference between occupancy of bit stream B on the current I or P frame and the occupancy at the next I or P frame. If VBV-diff is negative, the amount of change is limited to a limit value. The maximum value of the limit may be exceeded only once and the limit is then set to zero. The excess of VBV—diff over the limit is a value reduction—carry. Reduction carry is monitored, and if at the end of the transitional GOP it exceeds a threshold (e.g. zero), another transitional GOP is started. If VBV—diff is negative but does not exceed the limit, the target is reduced by VBV—diff and the limit is reduced by a proportion of VBV—diff. If VBV—diff is positive, then VBV—diff is averaged out over the target values for the remaining I and P frames in the GOP.

摘要: An MPEG2 encoded signal comprising intra-encoded pictures I and inter-encoded pictures B is decoded (70-74) to baseband and re-encoded (76) to I-pictures. The quantisation levels Q.sub.v and the motion vectors M.sub.v of the B pictures are retained unchanged and maintained in association with the corresponding pictures re-encoded as I-pictures. The I-pictures can be decoded to baseband, processed, and re-encoded as I-pictures without degradation. The I-pictures can then be re-encoded back to e.g. I, B pictures with minimal degradation. Alternatively, some of the I-pictures are decoded and converted to B pictures retaining unchanged the quantisation levels thereof.

摘要: A scene change detector sums the correlation maximum values of correlation surfaces produced by a motion vector determining circuit (2) across a current image and compares this with a threshold value (Thres) to detect scene changes. A statistical analysis of signals (V.sub.x, V.sub.y, Y) representing the current image may be made and a resulting value differentiated. Peaks in this differentiated value represent scene changes. Finally, rapid changes in the number of valid vectors found in a motion analysis of a current image may also be used to indicate a scene change.

摘要: A capacitive touch detection system, which can be used to inhibit motorized faders in an audio mixing system, includes touch detection circuits each having a respective conductive area for touch determination by detection of increased capacitance at the conductive area. The touch detection circuits are operable during predetermined active periods initiated by a clock generator which activates a pulse generator to produce an enable pulse EP1 for one detection circuit. The trailing edge of that enable pulse EP1 generates a non-overlapping enable pulse EP2 for the next detection circuit, and the process continues so that no more than one detection circuit is active at any time. This minimizes interaction between detection circuits if more than one conductive area is touched simultaneously.

摘要: The present invention provides a security control system, comprising a system controller (2) arranged to receive video signals from a plurality of video sources, and to selectively output a subset of the received video signals for display on a display means, and a display controller (10, 12) arranged to receive the subset of video signals output by the system controller, and to process those signals to generate images for display on the display means. In accordance with the present invention, the system controller (2) is further arranged to receive alarm signals, each alarm signal being associated with a video source, the system controller (2) being responsive to receipt of an alarm signal to output the video signal of the associated video source to the display controller. The display controller (10, 12) is then arranged to cause any images generated from video signals associated with alarm signals to be displayed in a predetermined area (M11) of the display means.By ensuring that all of the video information associated with alarms is displayed in a predefined area, it is easier for the operator to review that video information in order to ensure that effective action is taken in response to the alarm condition(s).

摘要: A video data compression system is described utilizing frequency separation and quantization. The video data is separated into primary frequency components (components 4, 5, 6) and secondary frequency components (components 0, 1, 2, 3). The primary frequency components undergo fewer frequency separating stages (N>M) than the secondary frequency components. The quantization step width (Q.sub.1, Q.sub.2) applied to the differing primary and secondary components is varied in dependence upon the relative human visual responsiveness (R(f.sub.s)) to the spatial frequency (f.sub.s) represented by that component. In addition, those frequency components that have undergone fewer frequency separating stages are subject to a larger quantization step width than the other frequency components since the fewer frequency combination stages such frequency components will subsequently undergo has the result that the image degradation introduced by quantization is less noticeable. The system also includes entropy encoding (42) using selectable complementary encoding and decoding tables. The system is particularly applicable to recording and reproducing apparatus.
