Abstract:
The present invention provides a multi-layer tape, comprising: a first adhesive layer comprising a pressure sensitive adhesive; a core layer having an outer surface, the first adhesive layer adhered to at least a portion of the outer surface; and fibrous reinforcing material dispersed within the core layer, the fibrous reinforcing material imparting stretch release properties to the tape. The tape may comprise a second adhesive layer wherein the outer surface comprises a first major surface and a second major surface, the first adhesive layer being adhered to the first major surface, and the second adhesive layer being adhered to the second major surface. A fire retardant may be disposed in any of the first adhesive layer, the second adhesive layer, and the core layer. The tape may be cleanly removable. The fibrous reinforcing material typically comprises substantially continuous viscoelastic microfibers having a yield strength and a tensile break strength, and the tensile break strength is at least about 150% of the yield strength. In another aspect, the tapes of the invention may be formulated to be cleanly removable without including fibrous reinforcing material therein. The invention also provides a method for the manufacture of the foregoing tape as well as an assembly comprising: a substrate; a carpet overlying the substrate; and a tape according to the invention disposed between the carpet and the substrate and adhering the carpet to the substrate.
Abstract:
A foam adhesive article is provided comprising a polymeric foam material having an outer surface, the outer surface of the polymeric foam material having adhesive properties; and fibrous reinforcing material, the fibrous reinforcing material dispersed within the polymeric foam material and imparting stretch release properties to the article. A method for preparing the foam adhesive article is also described comprising (a) melt mixing a foamable polymer composition, and a fiber forming resin to form an expandable extrudable composition; and (b) extruding the expandable extrudable composition through a die to provide the foam adhesive article.
Abstract:
A removable adhesive tape comprising a highly extensible and substantially inelastic backing and a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive. The backing has a high tensile strength, has a lengthwise elongation at break of at least about 150% with less than about 50% elastic recovery after stretching. The adhesive can be a normally tacky and pressure-sensitive adhesive and is coated on at least one surface of the film backing. The adhesive is preferably highly extensible, does not separate from the backing during stretching, and has higher cohesion than adhesion to any suitable substrate. After being applied to a substrate, the adhesive tape of the present invention becomes firmly bonded, but can be easily removed without damaging the substrate by simply stretching it in a direction substantially parallel, i.e., less than about 35null, to the surface of the substrate.
Abstract:
An adhesive sheet strip for a redetachable bond, removable from a joint by pulling in the direction of the bond plane, having a nonadhering grip tab and a subsequent single-sidedly or double-sidedly adhering strip, which comprises of: a) a backing composed of a film having a tensile strength of 2-20 N/cm and an elongation at break of 200-800%, and b) applied to at least one side thereof, a polyurethane-based adhesive comprising: 60-80% by weight of an aliphatic isocyanate/polyol crosslinking system, 15-35% by weight of a filler, and 0.05-0.20% by weight of an activator, based on the total weight of the adhesive.
Abstract:
This invention is directed to a fiber reinforced adhesive composition comprising a pressure sensitive adhesive matrix and a fibrous reinforcing material within the pressure sensitive adhesive matrix. The adhesive composition has a yield strength and a tensile strength. The tensile strength is at least about 150% of the yield strength. Generally, the adhesive composition exhibits these properties at least 50% elongation when measured according to ASTM D 882-97 at a crosshead speed of 12 inches/minute (30 centimeters/minute).
Abstract:
Easily removable, pressure-sensitive adhesive tape/wheel weight articles are provided. The articles of the invention comprise (a) a stretchable tape, wherein the tape has a first major surface and a second opposing major surface; and (b) a weight attached to the first major surface of the tape; wherein said tape is capable of being firmly bonded to a wheel via the second major surface of the tape and further being capable of being removed from the wheel and the weight after being stretched at an angle no greater than about 35 degrees from the surface of the wheel.
Abstract:
Adhesive film strip for a temporary bond which can be detached without residue and without damage by pulling in the direction of the bond plane, having a layer structure comprising an elastic backing layer which is provided on one or both sides with an adhesive layer, characterized in that both the backing layer and the adhesive layer(s) comprise styrene block copolymers as base polymers, blended with tackifier resins which are compatible with the elastomer block of the styrene block copolymers used.
Abstract:
Conformable pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes which comprise a layer of polymeric foam in the backing and may be adhered firmly to a substrate and thereafter removed therefrom after only being stretched at an angle no greater than about 35° from the surface of the substrate. Articles for mounting an object such as a picture to a surface such as a wall comprising a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape of the invention are also described.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a banding system, banding tape and method of using the same, each of which is particularly useful a variety of items such as flowers, straws, pens, pencils, newspapers, and vegetables. The banding system comprises a first strip and second strip. The first strip comprises an elastic polymeric material having a percent recovery of at least 50% after being elongated to 100% of its original length. The first and second strips are capable of being bonded together. The banding tape comprises a strip of elastic polymeric material having inner and outer surfaces and a nontacky layer on at least a portion of at least one of the surfaces. The method of using the banding system or tape of the invention comprises the steps of collecting one or more objects into a bundle, wrapping, stretching and securing the system or tape around the bundle, and allowing the elastic strip to at least partially recover to exert a compressive force on the bundle which holds the bundle together. The present invention further provides a bundle secured by either the novel banding system or banding tape, and tape comprising an elastic strip that has been printed with a bar code.
Abstract:
An improved window insulating kit of the type including a transparent plastic film and a double-coated pressure-sensitive adhesive tape by which a piece of the plastic film can be mounted and stretched taut across a window casement. Excess plastic film can then be trimmed off by pulling a strong, flexible, low-elongation thread that is incorporated into the tape. The thread can be made of highly oriented polymeric filaments and preferably is from 0.08 to 0.4 mm in diameter so that it can cut cleanly through the plastic film.
