“Green”, ceramic tapes intended as building blocks for making complex, fully ceramic components and devices for electronic-, lab-on-chip-, and sensing applications, the manufacture of which comprises in sequence: I. mixing of a ceramic “green” paste, II. homogenisation of a ceramic “green” paste, III. dimensioning and optionally structuring the ceramic “green” paste, IV. drying of the dimensioned and structured ceramic paste, in which: step iii) is performed in a combination of an extruder and a calender, the extruder being provided with a circular extrusion die, splitting and unfolding the extruded tube to a flat, continuous tape strip, using methylcellulose or derivatives thereof as binder, and, an additional step chosen among cutting and punching the thus dimensioned and optionally structured “green” paste, thereby making thick, “green” tapes. A method for its manufacture is also contemplated.

An adhesive backed article, method for its manufacture and a kit including such an article are provided. The article of the invention is provided as an antislip product comprised of a backing and an oil resistant adhesive applied to a major surface of the backing. In one aspect of the invention, an article is provided comprising: a backing having a first and second major surfaces, the first major surface being textured to provide a slip resistant surface; and a pressure sensitive adhesive disposed on the second major surface of the backing, the adhesive formulated to be resistant to peel in use when exposed to oily environments, the adhesive comprising the polymerized reaction product of (a) acrylic acid; (b) at least one N-vinyl containing monomer; (c) at least one acrylate selected from the group consisting of isooctyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, and combinations thereof; (d) optionally, less than about 20 weight % fluoroalkyl siloxane; and (e) optionally, a cross linking agent.

Broadly, the present invention is directed to an edge protector method and system for protecting an outside corner, e.g., of a room, which corner is formed by two walls or faces. The novel tape for protecting such outside corner is formed from polymeric material desirably having a thickness of from about 5 to 20 mils and which is formed from a pair of sides with an interconnecting hinge, said sides formed from a relatively stiff polymeric material compared to said hinge which is formed from a relatively flexible and elastic polymeric material compared to said sides, said hinge preferably being arcuate in shape, said tape having a front surface and a rear surface which is coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive. The novel tape is applied to the corner by its unrolling from the roll with the hinge in axial alignment with the outside corner followed by pressing of the coated rear surface sides on each face extending from the corner to form a corner edge protector for the corner.

The present invention provides methods of holding ophthalmic lens blanks using thermoplastic lens blocking compositions. Preferred compositions either comprise a homopolymer or copolymer of epsilon-caprolactone, have a number average molecular weight between 3,000 and 100,000, or have a polydispersity less than 10. The composition may also comprise one or more modifiers, fillers or heat absorbing materials. In one method, the composition is injected into the cavity between a preformed lens block and a lens. In another method, the surface of a lens block comprising the thermoplastic lens blocking composition is heated and formed against the lens blank. Tapes that provide a receptive surface against which the composition may be adhered are disclosed.

The present invention provides thermoplastic ophthalmic lens blocking compositions that have many advantages over traditional metal alloy materials. Preferred compositions comprise a homopolymer or copolymer of epsiloncaprolactone, have a number average molecular weight between 3,000 and 100,000, and a polydispersity less than 10. The composition may also comprise one or more modifiers, fillers or heat absorbing materials. In one embodiment, the composition is used to fill the cavity between a preformed lens block and a lens. In another embodiment the composition is used to form a lens block. Methods of holding a lens blank are taught. Tapes that provide a receptive surface against which the composition may be adhered are disclosed.

Tape comprising a backing bearing on at least one major surface thereof a plurality of ribs disposed substantially longitudinally thereon, and further bearing on at least one major surface thereof a layer of adhesive. The ribs are joined to the backing such that the contact angle between the ribs and the surface of the backing ranges from about 10.degree. to about 160.degree.. At least 50% of the cross-section of the ribs must project from the rib-bearing surface of the tape. It is preferred that the adhesive be a pressure-sensitive adhesive. The tape of this invention can be prepared by means of coextrusion techniques.
