The invention is based on the idea that a digital voucher (100) is provided with access control information for accessing digital content located on a server (104) of a content provider. A consumer of the digital content reads the voucher (100) by means of a bar code reader, an RF detector (102) or the like. 摘要： An existing video game system is modified to include additional communication and storage capability via a modem and hard disk drive. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, the primary system security features are incorporated into a video game system expansion device having a hard disk drive. The security system does not rely on the relatively insecure video game system. The present exemplary embodiment focuses security control in a disk drive/mass media controlling engine which is physically disposed within the expansion device housing as close as possible to the hard disk drive and the downloaded video games and other data it is designed to protect. Security features are incorporated into, for example, a disk drive controlling processing engine to provide security features which extend far beyond simplistic password systems which have heretofore been utilized in conjunction with disk drive controllers. In accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the disk controller also incorporates an encrypting engine which encrypts in accordance with a highly secure encrypting algorithm. A further level of security is provided in the illustrative embodiments by partitioning the hard drive into various partitions whose security/accessibility is tightly controlled. Each application program, e.g., a video game, has a predetermined number of private partitions, including a read only encrypted partition.

摘要： The invention is a method and system in which an authentication chip having secret information stored within it, including secret data stored in multi-level flash memory, is protected from unauthorized modification of values stored in the flash memory. The secret information is stored using an internal command and can only be accessed by one or more further commands. Secret data in the information is stored in intermediate states of the multilevel flash memory between the minimum and maximum voltage level states. A validity check is performed on secret data items before allowing them to be read out by a command accessing them. The validity check involves calculation of a checksum and comparison of the result with a checksum stored using the internal command as part of the secret information.

The modification may involve the use of an expansion device coupled to a video game system port. A cable TV tuner is also included in the expansion device to assist in providing a unique picture-in-picture video capability. TV signals are coupled to the expansion device via the RF input from either cable TV or off-air signals. These RF signals are blended with the output signals from the video game system. A user may, for example, watch TV while viewing overlay information from the video game console. A user may receive a TV channel guide downloaded via the Internet, spot a program which the user desires to view and immediately access, via an IR input, the desired channel through the expansion device TV tuner. A user may also watch TV while simultaneously logging onto the Internet. A hard drive permits downloading from the Internet of entire games.

The apparatus for accessing multimedia content using physical bookmarks includes one or more tokens. The input device is operable to receive a first identification code from a first token placed on the receptacle in an arbitrary angular orientation. A processing component is coupled to the input device and operable to receive the first identification code, and operable to deliver a first multimedia content associated with the first identification code. The method includes detecting a token that is placed on a receptacle of an input device by a user, wherein the token has an identification code. The method also includes reading the identification code associated with the token, and transmitting the identification code to a content server. The method further includes receiving a multimedia content identified by the identification code from the content server, and delivering the multimedia content to the user.
