摘要:
A method of writing on a two-reel, belt driven, multitrack tape cartridge wherein tape tension increases with the progress of tape transportation from one reel to another. Forward tracks on the tape are predivided into a first group adjacent the tape centerline and a second group adjacent one tape edge, and reverse tracks are similarly predivided into a first and a second group. Writing on each of the first group of forward tracks is started in a position spaced a less distance from the tape beginning than on each of the second group of forward tracks. Writing on each of the first group of reverse tracks is also started in a position spaced a less distance from the tape end than on each of the second group of reverse tracks. Thus the tape offers a greater storage capacity than if, as is conventional in the art, writing on the first groups of forward and reverse tracks is started in the same longitudinal tape position as on the second groups of forward and reverse tracks.

A direct file access system for a magnetic tape where all data files begin at a designated location on the tape. The direct file access system may be used with a reduced rewind data configuration to decrease data access time. The reduced rewind data configuration divides data files into generally equal portions so that data files begin and end at the designated location on the tape, eliminating rewind sequences. A method and system for reducing the number of tape retensioning passes is included to further decrease access time.

A cassette tape is constructed so that a radius of one reel side in a condition where to a middle point of a magnetic tape wound on a reel with a same radius k is a radius of a large-diameter reel, and the radius k is a radius of a small-diameter reel. With the cassette tape of the above construction, information corresponding to each other recorded on one track and the other track parallel to each other of a magnetic recording medium can be easily dubbed without deteriorating the interrelationship of information between both tracks.

A compact cassette recorder capable of loading digital or analogue cassettes which comprises: (a) a cassette holder which is dimensioned for insertion of a digital or an analogue compact cassette; (b) a base plate mounted in the cassette holder, the base plate being disposed in a parallel relationship with respect to the digital or analogue cassette when the latter is inserted inside the cassette holder; (c) a guiding slot formed on the base plate; (d) a pin mounted in the base plate and is slidable along the guiding slot, the pin has a projecting height which is slight less than the depth of the recessed region of the digital cassette so as to allow the pin to move into the recessed region and in contact with an edge of the digital cassette cover when the digital cassette is inserted into the cassette holder; and (e) a return spring for retaining the pin in the initial position until the pin is being pushed. The guiding slot is so structured to have an initial, an intermediate and an end position such that (a) the pin, while in the initial position, will be received by the recessed region of the digital cassette when the digital cassette is first inserted into the cassette holder, and the initial position of the guiding slot enables the pin to be in a position to open the cover; (b) when the digital cassette is pushed further inside the cassette holder into a working position, the pin is pushed from the initial position to the intermediate position, this movement causes the cover of the digital cassette to open; (c) when an analogue cassette, which does not have a recessed region, is inserted into the cassette holder and pushed into a working position, the pin will be pushed all the way to the end position thus will not interfere with a working of the analogue cassette.

A performance optimized computer data recording media format and associated control logic method is disclosed. Localized data block recording, such as by concurrent parallel or serpentine recording techniques, is used to create a series of Virtual Volumes on a single physical volume. Physical localization of data blocks records is achieved which tends to minimize access time. Using the Virtual Volume construct, other industry standard data storage systems can be emulated. Many data storage operations requesting physical motion are translated into virtual motion which in turn results in significantly less physical motion than that requested, thereby reducing access times and media and drive apparatus wear.

A method for recording digital information on a recording medium immediately after a silence interval is disclosed. A signal sound of a predetermined level is recorded at the beginning of the digital information stored on the recording medium. Preferably, a silence interval is placed between the signal sound of the predetermined level and the beginning of the digital information.

Disclosed is a video tape recorder, which uses an endless magnetic tape where recording tracks are formed in the running direction of the tape and in which magnetic heads are moved in the direction of the width of the tape with every excursion of the tape. The video tape recorder includes two magnetic heads such that while one of them is being used for recording, the other spaced apart from the first-mentioned one by an amount corresponding to several tracks can be used to trace the recording tracks formed by the first-mentioned head for reproduction, and thus it is possible to obtain a time shift of video signal.

A digital magnetic recorder uses up to twice the Nyquist bandwidth of a data signal, plus a clock signal at a frequency exactly equal to the bit rate for reliably exchanging data signals with a magnetic media. The frequency response of the recording system is greater than twice the Nyquist bandwidth of the data signals to be recorded. Optionally, additional control signals at frequencies above or below the clock frequency but within the available recorder bandwidth may be recorded. Preferably, in a multi-track magnetic recording system, a signal component is added at a frequency near the clock frequency such that the difference between this signal and the clock have a wavelength of the magnetic media greater than the maximum skew of the multi-track system. Such signal component is usable as a resynchronization pattern. Additionally, write errors are detected during recording with special control indicia recorded on the media indicating such errors. Without stopping the media, a write retry is effected in a predetermined relationship with the special indicia. Various forms of the indicia are described including special data patterns, special signal components, and the like. Special circuits established for handling data signals using framing techniques are described.
