Abstract:
A bandwidth aggregation system for providing wideband communication services by aggregating multiple bandwidths and a transmission band determination method for the bandwidth aggregation system are disclosed. T bandwidth determination method includes computing weights of the multiple bandwidths based on resource allocation distributions of the individual bandwidths, and selecting one of the multiple bandwidths for establishing a connection between a base station and a mobile station based on the weights of the multiple bandwidths.
Abstract:
An Internet Priority Service (IPS) provides to authorized users priority access to communication over the Internet during emergencies. Transmission of data packets from an authorized user that accesses the IPS are given priority for transmission over the Internet. The level of priority given to a data packet depends on the type of application associated with the data packet. Each user or group of users may also be given a respective IPS level of priority. Furthermore, for a particular authorized user, access to the IPS may be limited to a specific number of application types, which for example do not have high bandwidth requirements. Assigning different priority levels as a function of application type and user or group of users, and limiting IPS access to specific application types allows efficient methods of emergency communication to be implemented over the Internet during emergencies.
Abstract:
A particular overall architecture for transmission over a bonded channel system consisting of two interconnected MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) 2.0 SoCs (Systems on a Chip) and a method and apparatus for the case of a “bonded” channel network. With a bonded channel network, the data is divided into two segments, the first of which is transported over a primary channel and the second of which is transported over a secondary channel.
Abstract:
Aspects of the invention may be found in a system and method for hardware acceleration in a hybrid wired/wireless local area network. In according with various embodiments of the invention, hardware acceleration may comprise creating at least one policy to be distributed among one or more of a plurality of access point groups. At least one policy may be associated with a particular one of the access point groups. The associated policy may be identified and distributed to one or more access points in an access point group. The distribution of the policy may be conditioned on the occurrence of an event. An identified policy may be distributed to a particular access point group upon occurrence of the event.
Abstract:
A method for automatically establishing wireless connections between a plurality of grouped wireless devices and a third party wireless device, comprising the steps of: forming a connection group having a first wireless device and at least one additional grouped wireless device; configuring a connection table to record connection group attribute parameters for the connection group, the connection group attribute parameters including connection parameters of said first wireless device and other grouped wireless devices; configuring the first wireless device in the connection group such that it is capable of establishing a wireless connection with a third party wireless device; and establishing an additional wireless connection between the third party wireless device and the wireless devices of the group if the additional wireless connection satisfies a connection parameter specified by the connection table in the connection group.
Abstract:
A supervisory communications node monitors and controls communications with a plurality of remote devices throughout a widely distributed network. A method is provided to convey and maintain information used to synchronize the packetization and burst operations within the network. During session setup, jitter constraints indirectly are used to explicitly communicate a synchronization timing reference. The timing reference is set at the beginning of a phase/period boundary used to service the session. In an embodiment, the announcement of the first grant is used as an explicit indication of the synchronization timing reference value. In another embodiment, the synchronization timing reference value is inferred if a remote device receives contiguous voice grants meeting certain conditions. In an embodiment implementing periodic scheduling, the actual arrival of the first grant is used to infer the synchronization timing reference value. In an embodiment, the present invention enables the synchronization timing reference value and/or the periodicity to be modified if network conditions indicate that packetization and burst operations are out-of-synchronization.
Abstract:
A method includes receiving information flows between users into a basestation of a cellular network, applying a usage accountability framework responsive to predetermined user fairness metrics, bandwidth resources on the network and a history of channel bandwidth variations by the users, and executing bandwidth allocation for the flows between the users responsive to the applying an accountability framework for improving user experience on the network by the users.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for bandwidth brokering in a communication system (100) defines groups (212) and a bandwidth allocation for each group at a given base station (202). Each group has a guaranteed bandwidth (116). Each group may exceed its guaranteed bandwidth (118) by using additional bandwidth if there other groups are not using their full guaranteed bandwidth (408) or if there is community bandwidth available. A group's bandwidth usage may be pre-empted (412) when its bandwidth usage exceeds its guaranteed bandwidth and other groups require additional bandwidth within their guaranteed bandwidth.
Abstract:
A method of providing network access across a shared communications medium between competing users includes the steps of monitoring network access usage by each user for a past time interval and, based on the monitored network access usage, allocating network access for each user during a future time interval. Features include forecasting network access that will be utilized or requested by users in a future time interval, and prioritizing the users for allocating network access to the users.
Abstract:
In some embodiments, an apparatus includes a connect control module adapted to receive a dynamic service addition message containing a reserved bandwidth amount of a reserved bandwidth allocation for an uplink service flow. The reserved bandwidth allocation is capable of accommodating two or more Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls and the uplink service flow is substantially in accordance with an Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) 802.16 standard. The apparatus also includes a call session module coupled to the connect control module and adapted to generate a connection request message for a VoIP connection. The connect control module, in response to the connection request message, is further adapted to send a dynamic service change request message to activate a call-session bandwidth portion of the reserved bandwidth allocation for the VoIP connection.
