Abstract:
According to the principles disclosed herein, an image requested by a mobile device is first processed in a server device. In accordance with a set of parameters about the screen of the mobile device, the requested image is transformed to a reduced version that fits well into the screen. In addition, the reduced version is inherently divided into a number of subareas, each embedded a link to a detailed version thereof and associated with one of the keys in the mobile device. When the reduced version is, displayed on the mobile device, a user decides to view an area that falls into one of the subareas, a corresponding key is activated. A new request including the link is send to the server device that consequently sends out the detailed version. Similary, the detailed version is inherently divided into the same number of subareas. As a result, all parts in the original image can be recursively viewed.
Abstract:
The object of the present invention is to provide a digital camera system capable of transmitting image information suitable for the purpose of image usage in a peripheral. Special information in connection with an application program used in the peripheral is output to a digital camera, an image data processed in the digital camera on the basis of the special information is output to the peripheral, and the peripheral executes the application program by inputting the processed image data into the application program. The special information is the size of a character, the number of colors, resolution, and the like used in the application program.
Abstract:
An image data transmission apparatus reads image data from a document placed on a document tray via a line sensor or the like, and transmits the obtained image data to a receiving apparatus either after rotation of the image data or without rotation of the image data wherein whether rotation is performed or not is determined in accordance with the receiving capability of the receiving apparatus and also on the document setting position. If the rotation is required, the reading operation is performed in such a manner that the line density in the secondary scanning direction in the reading operation will become the line density in the principal direction after the rotation so that no degradation in the resolution and processing efficiency occurs.
Abstract:
An Internet facsimile machine includes a receiver receiving simplified image data and information of an effective period for saving original image data by an electronic mail message and a storage unit storing the received simplified image data. The Internet facsimile machine further includes a control unit controlling to transmit an image data request for requesting high quality image data with an image quality higher than that of the received simplified image data without saving the received simplified image data in the storage unit when the received effective period is longer than a prescribed threshold.
Abstract:
A method for serving an image from a server to a client, e.g., a computer having a browser or other graphics viewing engine. The user of the client first specifies a set of one or more bitmap characteristics for an image transfer, with at least one of the bitmap characteristics including a number of bits per pixel. Preferably, this specification is accomplished using an applet or other piece of code that is downloaded to the client from the server. Later, when the server receives a client request that includes data identifying a specified bitmap characteristic, a server processing routine (e.g., a servlet) generates a version of the image that conforms to the specified bitmap characteristic. This version is then delivered back to the client in response to the original request. In this way, the user of the client machine can control the particular characteristics of the image files that are delivered to his or her machine.
Abstract:
In an image storing method for storing image signals, which represent images, in a storage device, a plurality of image signals, which represent a single image and have been subjected to different processes with respect to at least both of resolution altering processing and image processing, are stored in the storage device. In a network comprising a plurality of image output devices having different levels of image displaying quality according to purposes for which the displayed images are used, the image signals having been read from the storage device are capable of being quickly transferred or outputted according to purposes for which the displayed images are used.
Abstract:
In response to a request from a host device using an initial protocol, capability information including information indicative of a plurality of communication protocols is returned to the host device, and a communication protocol, designated by the host device based on the capability information, is set, and print data is received from the host device by the set communication protocol. In a system using an interface connected to various types of devices, e.g., an IEEE 1394 serial bus, a communication protocol, which is used when a host device transfers print data to a printer, is not limited to that unique to the manufacturer of the device.
Abstract:
A scanner is connected to a host computer. A scanner control routine is installed onto the host computer and used to generate and forward control signals to the scanner or multi-function device. Using the scanner control system, manager or routine, one or more scanned image destinations are defined and one or more scanning parameters are defined that are particularly appropriate for each such scanned image destination. Each scanned image destination is associated with one of a number of pre-named scanner destinations that can be selected using the scanner. These pre-named destinations usually have generic or otherwise meaningless names that are not associated with any particular destination or location. The user uses the control panel of the scanner or multi-function device to select one of the pre-named destinations. The scanner or multi-function device forwards this selected destination to the host computer. The scanner control system, manager or routine on the host computer converts the selected destination to the actual destination or location previously associated with that selected destination. The scanner control system, manager or routine then causes the host computer to nullpullnull a scanned image from the scanner or multi-function device based on the scanner parameters previously defined for the actual destination or location corresponding to the selected pre-named destination.

Abstract:
There are provided a communication apparatus and method that enables the retransmission of an electronic mail if an error occurs in the transmission of the electronic mail due to its excessive data size, by reducing the data capacity of the electronic mail without taking time and labor, and a program for implementing the method. In a digital copying machine as the communication apparatus, when an electronic mail that notifies an error relating to an electronic mail transmitted with image data attached is received, the error notification electronic mail is analyzed. If an error that is attributable to the data capacity of the electronic mail is detected from the analysis result, the image data attached to the electronic mail for which the error notice has been received is acquired and the capacity of the image data is reduced by lowering its resolution. The electronic mail to which the image data thus reduced in capacity is attached is retransmitted.
