    摘要: A tubular body (74, 102) having a deformable internal annular skirt is made from a blank (10, 80) having a stopped bore (20) which terminates at an end wall (24). First, an aperture (40) is formed in the end wall (24) to provided a through bore, of which a main region is provided by the formerly stopped bore (20). The aperture (40) is made to taper towards the main region and to a diameter substantially smaller than that of the main region. Material peripherally of the aperture (40) is then swaged towards and into the main region, and radially outwardly in the main region, thereby forming the swaged material into a skirt. The tapering aperture (40) can be formed by use of a punch (30) and a die (32) having a die aperture (36) larger than the punch diameter. By making the aperture (40) not radially symmetrical, the resulting skirt (70, 98) can be made of unequal lengths on opposite radii. The aperture (114) can be made non-symmetrical by using a punch slightly offset from the axis of the die aperture (36) or by making the end wall of different thickness on different radii.

    摘要: A power tool for the setting of blind rivets has a reversible electric motor which can reciprocate a gripper for the mandrel of a blind rivet through a transmission employing a rotary nut driven by the motor and a spindle which reciprocates the gripper in response to rotation of the nut. The motor is permanently connected with the spindle, and hence with the gripper, and the ratio of the transmission including the nut and the spindle is not dependent upon the position of the gripper. Such construction enhances the comfort to the operator of the power tool. The electric circuit for the motor is designed in such a way that the motor is disconnected from a portable energy source and is braked prior to a reversal in the direction of rotation of its output element.

    摘要: An improved automatic rivet feed apparatus which can be used as a retrofit to an existing power driven riveting tool or incorporated integrally into a riveting tool. A rivet strip holds each of the plurality of rivets at individual fixed positions on the rivet strip. Included is a rivet strip release hook which stops the rivets, as they are advanced one-by-one, at rivet pick-up point and releases each of the rivets from the rivet strip. A hand mounted on the end of a pneumatic ram grips the rivets at the rivet pick-up point, the hand having a biased latch to prevent slippage of the rivets. The pneumatic ram moves the rivet forward and rotates to place the rivet in alignment with the nose piece of the riveting tool. The pneumatic ram then retracts and inserts the mandrel of the rivet into the nose piece and returns to the rivet pick-up point to repeat the steps. A rivet pick-up mechanism is used to hold the rivet as it is released from the rivet strip and moved to the nose piece of the rivet strip.

    摘要: A magazine for compactly holding and feeding therefrom a quantity of blind rivets to a specially configured rivet table of a blind rivet setting device. The magazine, as part of an automatic rivet feed mechanism, contains a thin elongated strip or ribbon of flexible material holding the mandrel tips pierced through the strip evenly spaced apart. The strip is drawn from the magazine through a transverse feed slot formed through the rivet table generally orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the device. A spring biased retracting device continuously pulls the strip through the feed slot so that the next rivet in succession facing the rivet table is automatically drawn into axial alignment within the rivet table ready for positioning and setting into a work surface.

    摘要: A fastener having an assembly comprising a sleeve and pin for telescoping movement therein useful for clamping together a plurality of work pieces has two mechanical locking structures for locking the pin and sleeve together. One locking mechanism comprises material contained in a reduced diameter section of the sleeve which is formed into a first locking groove of the pin as a result of pulling the pin into the sleeve. A second lock comprises a locking crown formed in the sleeve head which is formed into a second locking groove in the pin by means of increased pulling pressure applied by the setting tool against the locking crown after pin movement has stopped. The design of the pin head is such that a clamping of the work pieces occurs prior to expansion of the sleeve in the apertures of the work pieces and prior to setting the double locks of the pin to the sleeve.

A fixed, inflexible feed path directs the collars from the cartridge towards the nosepiece to eliminate the jamming which occurs with conventional flexible feed tubes. The entire collar feed path is pivotally mounted within the tool to avoid complex shuttling movements of the collars across transition regions and discontinuities in the feed path to further reduce jamming.
