摘要： A marker insertion apparatus automatically removes a marker from a roll of marker material and applies the marker to an applicator. The markers mount to a backing sheet and are peeled from the sheet by passing over a peel bar. Jaws are positioned near the peel bar and configured for gripping an end marker. An applicator member inserts intermediate the jaws and has the end marker pressed onto the applicator and torn from the roll. In a first embodiment, the applicator is a paddle applicator for inserting markers between opposing pages, and in a second embodiment the applicator is a bayonet applicator for inserting markers into the spine of a book.

摘要： An electronic component feeder is provided for transferring a succession of electronic components borne by a carrier tape toward a pickup position one by one, the carrier tape having a backing strip and a protective cover strip adhesively secured to the backing strip to hold the electronic components in position. The feeder comprises a tape reel about which the carrier tape is wound; a transfer mechanism intermittently operable for advancing the carrier tape toward the pickup position each time at a predetermined pitch; a takeup mechanism operable in synchronism with the transfer mechanism for winding up the protective cover strip peeled from the carrier tape; a shuttle rod for operatively coupling the transfer mechanism and the takeup mechanism to enable them to move in concert, the shuttle rod having a plurality of locator holes each for along of the shuttle rod; an actuator for reciprocating the shuttle rod to cause a synchronized movement of the transfer mechanism and the takeup mechanism, the actuator including a cylinder and a piston rod extendibly fitted into the cylinder; an interconnector block fixedly attached to the piston rod at a first end and slidably engaged with the shuttle rod at a second end; and a locator pin carried by the interconnector block for selective engagement with one of the locator holes of the shuttle rod.

摘要： A dispenser dispenses linerless labels in a web from a roll. The dispenser includes a housing with a shaft in the housing for receipt of the core of a roll of labels mounting them for rotation about an axis. First and second substantially planar guide surfaces guide movement of the labels away from the shaft in a plane substantially parallel to a plane containing the axis of rotation, and first and second rollers are mounted at the end of the guide surfaces for rotation about axes parallel to the axis of rotation of the roll. Each roller may comprise a stationary rod with a freewheeling tube over the rod. The labels are maintained taut during dispensing to assist the process of one label being stripped from another. The dispenser is used in a method of dispensing linerless quadrate pressure sensitive adhesive labels by pulling the labels between the rollers and alternately breaking them over the first roller, and then the second roller, to strip each label from its trailing label.

摘要： An apparatus for bonding a multi-layer thin film onto a substrate and for removing a layer of the film. A printed circuit board having a multi-layer film bonded to a planar surface thereof has one layer of the film lifted at a leading edge by vibration and fluid pressure. The leading edge is mechanically gripped and a pulling force applied thereto to draw the film from the surface of the circuit board and to transfer the removed film along a path to a discharge apparatus. The transfer apparatus includes frictionally engaged belts which direct the film along a transfer path to a source of ionized fluid which is applied to the film in order to remove static and direct the film along the transfer path towards a used film receptacle.

摘要： An inserting machine which optimizes the final weight of a mailpiece in order to realize the maximum value of a postage category is disclosed. Each of the enclosure types which may be inserted within the mailpiece is assigned a level of priority based on a postage category. In addition, each of the enclosure types is assigned a maximum per enclosure weight. A processing unit calculates an initial weight for the mailpiece due to those enclosures having a priority which indicates that they must be inserted within the mailpiece without reservation. The processing unit then selects other enclosure types for insertion within the mailpiece based upon the priority level of the enclosure type and the maximum weight of the enclosure such that the final weight of the mailpiece is substantially equal to a maximum allowable weight threshold for a given postage category. The level of priority of an enclosure can be entered into the system by a variety of means and can further be changed from one collation processed to the next "on the fly."

In this method, when a signal of web breakage is received from any one of web breakage sensors which are provided to sense the breakage of any of the running webs, a nip pressure signal is changed in accordance with the number of webs still running, and is sent to a nip pressure controller to decrease the nip pressure of a triangular former drag pressing roller and nipping roller, to prevent the multiple breakage of webs.
