The invention consists in the cylinder section (11) surrounding the combustion chamber being made of a light metal alloy and in the lower part of the cylinder section being connected to a crankcase section (13) with integral lateral walls (21,22) which enclose the cylinder section (11) with an air gap, and the crankcase section is made of a material with higher density than the cylinder section, preferably cast iron.

Arrangements are disclosed for a lightweight engine frame wherein weight reduction and manufacturing simplicity are obtained primarily through the use of skeletal box frames fabricated from extruded material joined at their ends forming a unique double lap joint assembly without the need for additional components. The disclosure describes the inventions advantageous corner construction which permits simple assembly with a minimum of tools. Also the described construction may be combined with a soundproofed exterior shell. Shown is an engine of the axial type, but similar constructions may be employed for other engine types, as well as transmission cases and where precise frame structures are required and the use of this invention may be an economic alternative.

The two chambers (6, 12) have an annular shape and the mount defines a central empty space (21) for the passage of a connecting rod (20) between one of the carrying armatures (18) and the unit to which it is connected. A gasket assembly having improved compression stoppers. The stoppers facilitate the rapid, easy and certain securance of the stoppers in a predetermined relationship in a gasket assembly. A gasket assembly, in accordance with this invention desirably comprises a main body having a pair of side sections, each comprising a self supporting core member and compressible facings fast with the core member and defining fastener openings through which fasteners are adapted to pass. The core members extend along the side sections of the gasket assembly, said facings and said core providing side sections of a first thickness. The main body further comprises end portions joining the side sections. Separate compression stoppers are provided in the fastener openings. The compression stoppers are compression and high-temperature resistant, and are secured in the openings in the main gasket body, the compression stoppers comprising a pair of press-fit annuli together defining a peripheral groove means in which the core member is disposed, thereby to retain the compression stoppers in the fastener openings and in a predetermined relationship to the outer surfaces of the facings.

An upper support for a radiator wherein a body bracket and a radiator bracket are joined together by means of a rubber member which has at least one rubber prop on each side of a vertical bracket axis and has a cavity defined between the right and left rubber props. In the state before radiator assembly and also in the assembled state, the rubber props are inclined upwardly in a direction from the body bracket toward the radiator bracket. In this structure of the radiator upper support, a tensile force always works on the rubber props and accordingly there is no wide fluctuation in the dynamic spring constant. Thus the range of the cavity dimensions which effectively contribute to suppression of idle vibration and internal car noise can be so enlarged that, when there are large tolerances in radiator assembly, the dynamic spring constant of the vibrational system involved can remain in the effective range of the dynamic spring constants for suppression of the vibration, thereby minimizing the idle vibration and the internal car noise.
