When the cartridge is loaded into the printer main body, the control section selects the external font data memory and the external font development program memory in the cartridge, and performs control to generate print data corresponding to a designated character.

    摘要: An outline representation of a character or symbol is treated as being composed of a set of zones formed in both the horizontal and vertical directions. The zones are completely character-specific. Each zone defines the extent of some feature of the character. The boundaries of the zones are mapped to specific pixel locations in a bitmap em-square of selected resolution and size. Additional interpolation zones are defined which are used to map all the points on the outline representation of the character that are contained within the interpolation zone, but do not coincide with a control edge, from the positions in the high-resolution em-square to a corresponding position in the low-resolution em-square. To maintain relationships between features, constraint functions may be defined which regulate the size of the control zones for a character at predetermined sizes. Control zones and interpolation zones are all derivatively linked to a basic set of horizontal and vertical control edges at the outline description level. Consequently, the number of computations needed is reduced and the speed with which a bitmap can be generated from the outline representation is increased.

    摘要: An image data output apparatus such as a laser beam printer or the like includes an input interface, a CPU, an output interface, a detachable ROM cartridge as a character pattern generator and the like. After the initializing operation, the input interface supplies a font select command of a font to be selected to the CPU. The CPU determines whether or not attributes designated by the font select command coincide with those of fonts of the apparatus stored in respective font registers. When no coincidence is established, the CPU selects a font having attributes near those designated by the font select command. If a font having the designated attributes does not exist in the character pattern generator, the apparatus can select and generate a font having the attributes near those of the font to be selected.

    摘要: Method for resetting the print head of a typewriter or similar machine to a starting position. In a processor-controlled typewriter or similar machine, the steps of a vertical repositioning of the recording medium are added and stored. If the added value indicates an upward movement of the recording medium, this value is cancelled as a character is printed. If, contrarily, a downward movement of the recording medium is indicated, the value is retained. Moreover, the current horizontal position of the printing head and, when it is repositioned horizontally, also the position of the last printed character, are stored. Upon initiation of an automatic reset function of the printing head to the end of the printed text, after a repositioning in horizontal and/or vertical direction, for instance for purposes of a correction, the stored information is evaluated for activation of the printing head drive and the recording medium drive.

    摘要: The keyboard of an electronic typewriter with a daisywheel print unit on a carriage includes a CENTER key and REPEAT key. With the print unit positioned where an insertion is to be made in a line being set up blind, these keys are actuated and the character to be inserted are typed in. The usable area for typing is continually shown on a two-digit display device. When a service key is then depressed, the line is printed with the inserted character entered by appropriate compression or expansion of empty spaces adjacent the characters to be inserted. The typewriter further comprises a line space memory and a control circuit which signals the number of line spacing commands which can still be carried into effect before the last line to be typed on the sheet.

    摘要: An apparatus for performing multiple operations during a memory revolution in an electronic dynamic shift register. The memory is initially arranged by the input of control codes such as record, operation, separator, and hold flags. The separator flag defines a normal section and an alternate section, and the operation and hold flags define the position of the next character to be addressed in each of the sections. The record flag is the operating point for an output operation in the normal section. When one of the sections is addressed and it does not contain the operation flag, the hold and operation flags are exchanged in order that the operation flag is in the section addressed. With the operation flag in the normal section, an input zone is defined by the separator flag in the alternate section, and a revision zone is defined from the record flag to the separator flag in the normal section. When the operation flag is in the alternate section, the input zone begins with the first dummy code following the operation flag, and the revision zone is from the separator flag to the first dummy code. An output zone is defined in the normal section by inserting a page end code and extends from the record flag through the page end code. When the page end code is inserted, the revision zone is redefined from the page end code to the separator flag. This arrangement of memory allows for multiple operations such as input, output, and revision to be performed during any one memory revolution. Upon decode of the control codes defining the sections and zones, initiated operations are performed and controlled.

    摘要: A text editing system which is completely comprised of magnetic bubble domain components (or charge-coupled devices) is described. The essential parts of the system are a passive storage comprising a plurality of shift registers which are a convertible structure, i.e., they can be randomly accessed or sequentially accessed depending upon the state of a plurality of conversion switches. This provides great flexibility in entry, retrieval, and restoring. An active storage comprising a plurality of shift registers is used for various text editing functions, such as insertion of data, deletion of data, etc. In the active storage, an editing shift register is provided which implements the various text editing functions using techniques such as freezing data bits and bypassing data bits in order to change the order of the data and to close gaps which may occur in the data. A write decoder is provided for selective entry of text into the passive storage and a read decoder is provided for selecting the contents of a specific shift register in the passive storage for data manipulation. The conversion switches are also used to control data flow paths or directions and to maintain the proper order of the data. Control circuits are provided to coordinate and control the functions of the various storages, the decoders, and the switches. The principles used for the overall system can be implemented with bubble domain devices or with charge coupled devices.
