    Abstract: Some embodiments relate to an apparatus for holding a workpiece under tension while one or more operations are performed on the workpiece, the apparatus comprising: a frame; a first spindle rotatably coupled to the frame; a first coupler configured to couple the first spindle to a first end of the workpiece; a second spindle rotatably coupled to the frame; and a second coupler configured to couple the second spindle to a second end of the workpiece; wherein a distance between the first and second couplers is adjustable to hold the workpiece under tension between the couplers while the one or more operations are performed, and wherein the workpiece can be rotated with the couplers relative to the frame about a common axis of rotation extending between the couplers. Some embodiments relate to a system comprising a controller for controlling rotation of the workpiece. Embodiments also relate to processes comprising holding a workpiece under tension while performing one or more operations on the workpiece. Some of the processes, systems and apparatuses described may be particularly useful for cold spraying delicate workpieces such as 3D printed static mixers.

    Abstract: An apparatus (100) for mixing a liquid (160) containing particulates (106, 108) comprising: a vessel (102) for containing the liquid (160) that includes a sidewall (120) and a bottom (124); and an impeller (300) rotating about a substantially vertical axis (X-X), said impeller (104): adapted for submerging below the liquid surface (162) by a distance that is approximately one-tenth to one-half of the height of the liquid (129); and include at least two annually spaced apart blades (310) extending radially outwardly of the vertical axis (X-X), the blades (310) comprising back-swept blades that are pitched substantially parallel to the vertical axis (X-X), at least 50% of the length of each blade (310) comprising an angled section (312) extending through a chord angle of 20 to 60 degrees; to produce (a) an inner, upward flow region (164) located along said vertical axis (X-X), (b) a transition flow region (166) located around the impeller (300) in which liquid moves radially outwardly toward the vessel sidewall (120), and (c) an outer, downward flow region (168) located along the sidewall (120).

    Abstract: Magnetic resonance (MR) apparatuses, systems and methods for analysing a material. The magnetic resonance apparatuses include a primary loop defining an aperture that the material being analysed can pass through where the primary loop includes at least one pair of electrically conductive segments. The magnetic resonance apparatus also includes a pair of capacitance units corresponding to each pair of electrically conductive segments. Each capacitance unit is conductively connected to two adjoining conductive segments in series so that the primary loop forms a circuit for a radio frequency (RF) current. The primary loop is adapted to: conduct the RF electrical current so that the RF electrical current is predominantly in-phase over the entire primary loop. The magnetic resonance apparatus further includes: a pair of secondary coils corresponding to each pair of capacitor units, electrically conductively isolated from the primary loop. Each secondary coil is oriented to be magnetically coupled to the primary loop such that each secondary coil is capable of exciting RF voltages in the primary loop that are predominantly in-phase with each of the RF voltages excited by the other secondary coils. The magnetic resonance apparatus also includes a primary shield encompassing the primary loop and secondary coils for shielding electromagnetic radiation, the primary shield adapted to allow the material to pass through the aperture defined by the primary loop unobstructed.
