Abstract:
A magnetometer is provided for detecting a magnetic field of strength B using the Faraday effect. The magnetometer includes a photon emitter, a first polarizer, a prism, a second polarizer, a detector and an analyzer. The emitter projects an emitted light beam substantially parallel to the magnetic field and having wavelength λ. The prism has an interface surface and is composed of a Faraday medium having Verdet value V. The emitted light beam passes through the first polarizer and then the prism, exiting from the interface surface making an incident angle θ0 to normal of the surface and then refracting into a secondary medium as first and second circularly polarized light beams that are separated by a small angular divergence δ. These polarized light beams have average refraction angle θ to the normal and pass through a post-selection polarizer before the detector measures a weak value Aw of a photon having “which path” operator  associated with the polarized light beams. The magnetic field strength is determined as B ≈ - 2 ɛ A w π n 0 cos θ V λsin θ 0 . The parameters include n0 as index of refraction of the secondary medium, and ε as amplification factor. The pointer rotation angle Aw can be expressed as A w = ( θ + - θ - ) cos ɛ + [ ( θ + + θ - ) - 2 θ 0 ] sin ɛ 2 sin ɛ in which θ+ and θ− are respectively right- and left-polarized refraction angles with the average refraction angle such that θ = 1 2 ( θ + + θ - ) . The pointer rotation angle Aw can be approximated as Aw≈δ/2ε when 0

A ballistic lumbar support belt includes a lumbar support portion configured to cover and provide support to at least a portion of a wearer's lower back. The lumbar support portion is configured to receive one or more ballistic protection elements. A belt portion is connected to the lumbar support portion. The belt portion is configured to releasably secure the lumbar support portion around the wearer's waist.
Abstract:
A welding electrode according to the disclosure includes a body. A head is secured to the body and includes an aperture through which a pin extends. A polymer insulating sleeve is arranged between the pin and the head, for example. The sleeve material extends radially from an inner diameter to an outer diameter. The outer diameter engages the head, and the inner diameter is in close proximity to and engagement with the pin, which slides axially relative to the sleeve. The head and sleeve include first and second interlocking features that cooperate with one another to retain the sleeve in the aperture. The sleeve is arranged inboard from an outer face of the head, which is used to support a work piece.
Abstract:
The invention provides methods of treatment using retro-inverso peptides derived from interleukin-3 (IL-3) having between 12 and about 40 amino acids and including the sequence that is retro-inverso with respect to SEQ ID NO: 1. These peptides of the invention have the same activity as native IL-3 and also have neurotrophic activity. The peptides of the invention are also less susceptible to proteolytic degradation in vivo because of their D-amino acid linkage.

The invention provides methods of treatment using retro-inverso peptides derived from leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) having between 18 and about 40 amino acids and including the sequence that is retro-inverso with respect to SEQ ID NO: 1. The peptides of the invention have the same activity as native LIF and also have neurotrophic activity. The peptides of the invention are also less susceptible to proteolytic degradation in vivo because of their D-amino acid linkage.

Abstract:
Embodiments of an injector, syringe, syringe interface, and piston/plunger assembly for an injector (of contrast medium, for example) are described. Preferably, the syringe is adapted to engage a syringe interface mechanism such that the syringe may be connected to an injector without regard to any particular orientation of the syringe to the injector or to the piston/plunger assembly.
Abstract:
A device is provided for imprinting a solid or dashed straight line on the surface of a golf ball. The device consists of a semi-rigid stencil that may be snapped securely around the surface of a golf ball. While the golf ball is allowed to rotated freely within the stencil so as to allow a user to rotate the ball to the correct position, a pair of finger grips are provided which, when compressed, clamp the ball in position so as to prevent the ball from rotating while the ball is being marked. The stencil also includes a linear groove adapted to receive a pen, indelible marker or other writing implement for marking the ball with a linear indicia. This indicia can be used for identification purposes, as a putting trainer, and an alignment aid during play. Beveled edges or bumpers may also be included along the inner surface of the groove to assist the user in imprinting the ball and prevent smudging or pooling of the ink or paint used to mark the ball.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a hybridization oven or incubator, and more particularly to a rotisserie and carousel/retainer system for use therein. The rotisserie includes a spindle that is readily removable from the oven, having a first end received in an annular bracket and a second end received annular bracket with an upper slot for passage of the spindle into the bracket. The carousel clip system includes a thin metal carousel plate preferably formed of a stainless steel and having a plurality of ears bent perpendicular to the carousel plate and having a detent aperture therein. A plurality of bottle retainers are removably attached to the carousel plate, the retainers having a base channel adapted to receive the ears of the carousel plate and further including a resilient arm having a detent projecting into the channel and deflectable during insertion of the ear into the channel, the detent entering the detent aperture of the ear under the bias of the resilient arm to removably retain the clip on the ear of the carousel plate.
Abstract:
A process of forming a plurality of substantially identical printed ribbons from a single length of rolled tape, includes unrolling the tape, repeatedly silk-screen printing a wet ink pattern onto a side of the tape, along the length of the tape, as the tape is unrolled, cutting the printed tape into a plurality of ribbons all having substantially the same length and all bearing substantially the same ink pattern, and drying the wet ink. The improvement includes wherein the tape that is used includes a polymer substrate that is metallized on both sides, with at least the side that is printed upon having a top layer of an ink-receptive coating. A printed ribbon includes a ribbon substrate and an ink pattern silk-screen printed onto one side of the ribbon substrate. The improvement includes wherein the ribbon substrate includes a polymer substrate includes that is metallized on both sides with an ink-receptive coating disposed at least on the side that is printed upon.
