    摘要: A surgical staple including at least one deformable member which can be bent upon contacting an anvil of a surgical stapler. In various embodiments, at least a portion of the deformable member can include a non-circular cross-section which can dictate the direction and manner in which the deformable member is bent. In at least one various embodiment, the non-circular cross-section can include a flat portion which can cause the deformable member to bend in the direction of the flat portion. In various embodiments, the non-circular portion of the cross-section can be configured to abut soft tissue of a patient and apply a compressive force or pressure thereto. In various embodiments, a crown formed on the surgical staple can dissolve as the soft tissue heals and can, depending on the cross-sectional geometry of the deformable member, reduce the force or pressure applied to the soft tissue by the deformable member.

    摘要: A clip, clip applier and method for ligating a tissue structure is provided. The applier has a two stage actuation. In the first stage, a tissue structure is positioned into the jaws of the clip applier. The jaws close and lock to a preset force to compress and temporarily occlude the tissue structure. If satisfactorily positioned, the second stage is initiated in which a clip is advanced through the shaft of the clip applier in a closed position. At the distal end of the clip applier, the clip is opened slightly to capture the pre-compressed tissue structure, and is placed over the structure. The clip is then dissociated from the business end of the instrument. Preferably the clip comprises two leg members disposed in close proximity to one another joined from opposing directions by a connecting element. The connecting element restricts separation of the leg members with opposing spring members so as to provide substantially uniform parallel deflection of the leg members from each other.

    摘要: A multi-patient use trocar assembly is disclosed. The trocar assembly has obturator and cannula subassemblies. The obturator subassembly has an elongated obturator shaft which can receive an endoscope at its distal end. The obturator shaft is reusable for multi-patient use. A transparent obturator tip is detachably mounted onto the end of the obturator shaft. The obturator tip is transparent and disposable. Because it is transparent, illuminated images provided by the endoscope within the body cavity can be transmitted through the obturator tip. Once the trocar assembly is used on a first patient, the obturator tip is detached and disposed of, and replaced with another obturator tip. Hospital costs are reduced because the trocar assembly can be reused multiple times, and only the obturator tip needs to be disposed of after each patient use.

    摘要: A serial address generator for a sequential (burst mode) random access memory generates a sequence of internally generated addresses for fast cycling. The start address is externally provided. Then, as the clock signals arrive, the subsequent addresses are generated in sequence by the address sequencer. The address sequencer is preset to the second address in the sequence following the start address. Simultaneously, the start address is connected by an external address enable switch to an output terminal of the address generator, bypassing the address sequencer. When the first clock signal arrives at the address sequencer, the address sequencer output is sampled by closing an internal address enable switch and opening the external address enable switch. Thus the internally generated addresses are provided immediately following the start address. The address sequencer thereby generates each address one clock cycle ahead of that in the prior art, and the output address is provided one half clock cycle ahead of that in the prior art.

    摘要: An endoscopic clip applying system as described which contains a venting system and a clip applying support system which prevents closure of the mechanism before firing. The applier's jaws are spaced apart no further than the width of the applier shaft, even when holding a clip. Also, the system ensures proper loading of the clips and prevents them from falling out during loading. Further, the system describes an easily manufacturable, positively opening system which has minimized size requirements. Furthermore, a lock-out mechanism is provided so that the mechanism may not be inadvertently fired. The shaft resists excessive torque as well as holds the clip in place during firing. There are provisions for sealant and non back-up of the clips, as well as features which make the clip properly placed for closure. In an alternate embodiment, the clip applier shaft rotates about its handle mechanism.
