Abstract:
A method and apparatus for preventing rogue implementations of a security-sensitive class interface are provided. With the method and apparatus, a unique identifier (UID) is created by a server process when the server process is started. Anytime the server process, i.e. a server runtime environment, instantiates a new credential object following start-up of the server process, the encrypted UID is placed into a private field within the new credential object. In addition, the UID is encrypted and stored in a private class of the server runtime environment. A verification class is provided within the server runtime environment which includes one or more methods that receive the credential object as a parameter and return true or false as to the validity of the credential object. These one or more methods determine the validity of the credential object by retrieving the encrypted UID from the private class stored in the server runtime environment, decrypting the UID and comparing it to the decrypted UID stored in the private field of the credential object. If the two UIDs match, a determination is made that the credential object was created by the server runtime environment rather than a rogue application. If the two UIDs do not match, or if there is no UID in the credential object, then a false result will be returned by the verification class.
Abstract:
Intricately shaped toilet bars with specific compositions and plasticity properties can be advantageously manufactured via three dimensional cutting. Such cut bars are characterized by specific surface profiles and topographic features. Intricately shaped toilet bars with a wide range of formulations for enhanced skin treatment can be thus economically and reliably manufactured.
Abstract:
A method of displaying images on the display screen of a portable electronic device includes presenting the overall image according to a first magnification level and a selected region in accordance with a second magnification level. The second region is superimposed over the overall image and is activated by a user input.
Abstract:
Improved compositions and methods are provided for stabilizing a solution of bone morphogenetic protein. The compositions comprise an aqueous solution of GDF-5 and a biocompatible acid, such as hydrochloric, acetic, phosphoric, or trifluoroacetic acid, wherein the solution has a pH of from about 3.0 to about 3.6, thereby providing for improved stability of the GDF-5 protein during handling and prolonged storage at reduced temperatures.
Abstract:
A method of automatic drilling of a well with coil tubing or drill pipe tubing utilizes AC motors coupled to variable frequency drives controlled by a programmable logic controller. For example, a coil tube injector is supported in a mast for injecting coil tube from a reel and into a wellbore for drilling the wellbore. The AC motors for the injector are driven for controlling a rate of injection of coil tube by the injector for maintaining at least one drilling parameter such as weight-on-bit, differential mud pressure or rate of penetration. The AC motor for the reel is also controlled for driving the reel and maintaining a relative rate of coil tube supplied from the reel to the injector. Drawworks and a top drive supported by the draworks can also be equipped with AC motors and variable frequency drives for controlling a drilling rate for maintaining at least one of the drilling parameters.
Abstract:
A feed-forward flow controller is designed to calculate a target valve position from a target flow. Correction is made for liquid or gas pressure drop across the valve and for the valve flow modulating member geometry. This feed-forward action may also be used to linearize a feed-back flow control loop.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a novel approach for the diagnosis and therapy of renal cell carcinoma, and other renal tumors, for example Wilms' tumor or other tumors not originating from the kidney or non-malignant kidney pathologies. The areas of application of the invention include the field of medicine and the pharmaceutical industry but also basic biology. The aim of the invention is to provide novel forms of treatment which are urgently required regarding the present state-of-the-art in treatment of renal carcinoma and other cancers. It was discovered that the Nbk protein which is highly expressed in normal renal tissue, is either not expressed at all or only weakly expressed in the tumor tissue. The protein expression and the loss of Nbk was examined in renal cell carcinoma samples by the use of immunohistochemistry, PCR strategies, mutation and deletion analyses. The inventive method for diagnosis is characterized by that the Nbk protein concentration or the Nbk RNA quantity or Nbk mutation or deletion or Nbk gene modification, preferentially methylation, in tissue-derived material is determined. The inventive agent for the therapy of the renal carcinoma and other cells with low Nbk protein or RNA expression is that Nbk expression is increased and directly initiates the therapeutic effect in these cells. The implementation of a novel agent in non-tumorous kidney diseases is based on the inhibition of Nbk RNA or protein expression or Nbk activity.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an isolated small RNA virus capable of infecting insect species including Heliothis species, and to the nucleotide sequences and proteins encoded thereby. The invention contemplates uses of the virus in controlling insect attack in plants.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a single-part, biocompatible hip-joint socket moorable without cement, which hip-joint socket can be used universally in combination with hip-joint endoprostheses and is especially suitable for the treatment of dysphasia hips. The joint socket is made of Ti or Ta metals forming a barrier layer or of alloys thereof and is provided with a perforated flange ring for screwing to the pelvic bone, as well as being provided over its entire surface with specific function characteristic oxide layers containing bioactivators. For the implantation of the hip-joint socket, there are not required any special operating instructions, and additional operations, such as pelvic osteotomies, plasties of the roof of the acetabulum and repeated operations are prevented or minimized.
