Abstract:
A composition that can be used for abrasive processing is disclosed. The composition includes an organic bond material, an abrasive material dispersed in the organic bond material, and a plurality of microfibers uniformly dispersed in the organic bond material. The microfibers are individual filaments having an average length of less than about 1000 μm. Abrasive articles made with the composition exhibit improved strength and impact resistance relative to non-reinforced abrasive tools, and improved wheel wear rate and G-ratio relative to conventional reinforced tools. Active fillers that interact with microfibers may be used to further abrasive process benefits.
Abstract:
An abrasive article includes a core comprising an organic material and a first bonded abrasive body integrally bonded directly to the core, wherein the bonded abrasive body includes a bond material, and abrasive particles contained within the bond material.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates generally to coated abrasive articles that include a tribological performance enhancing composition in a make coat, a size coat, a supersize coat, or combinations thereof, as well as methods of making coated abrasive articles. The present disclosure also relates to coated abrasive articles including a supersize coating comprising a sulfide scavenging composition and/or a crosslinked zinc acrylic binder, as well as methods for making and using such abrasive articles. The present disclosure also relates generally to abrasive articles that include aggregates having an anti-wear composition or grinding aid disposed on or within the aggregates.
Abstract:
An abrasive article can include a body including a first portion coupled to a second portion in a radial plane. The body can include a central opening extending in an axial direction of the body through the first portion and through the second portion. The central opening can include a circumferential surface defining an inner diameter of the body. The circumferential surface can be defined by at least a portion of the first portion and at least a portion of the second portion. The first portion can include first abrasive particles contained within a first bond material, including an inorganic material, and the second portion can include second abrasive particles contained within a second bond material, including an organic material. The organic material can include epoxy. In an embodiment, the second portion comprises an elongation-at-fracture of less than 2.7%, a Stiffness Value of at least 8.3, or a combination thereof.
Abstract:
An abrasive article with an abrasive body a reinforcing member disposed within the body and a bond material that includes a bulk molding compound material. The abrasive article can have an average burst speed of at least (Formula (I)) wherein c is the circumferences of the wheel in mm.
Abstract:
Systems and methods include providing a coated abrasive article with a substrate formed from a plurality of hygroscopic fibers, an abrasive layer comprising a make coat, a size coat, a supersize coat, or combinations thereof disposed on a first side of substrate, and an anti-curl layer disposed on a second side of the substrate. The polymer-based anti-curl layer allows the coated abrasive article to achieve a change in curl between −5 millimeters and 25 millimeters, the change in curl being expressed as the curl of the coated abrasive article in millimeters at 90% relative humidity minus the curl of the coated abrasive article in millimeters at 20% relative humidity. The coated abrasive article exhibits substantially no loss of grinding performance, burst speed, or a combination thereof as compared to coated abrasive articles free of the anti-curl layer.
