Abstract: Provided are compounds, compositions, and methods for treatment of fungal infections. The compositions comprise the mannose disaccharide analog (2R,3S,4S,5S,6R)-2-((((3S,4R,5R)-4,5-dihydroxypiperidin-3-yl)methyl)thio)-6-(hydroxymethyl)tetrahydro-2H-pyran-3,4,5-triol. Methods are also provided for the treatment of fungal infections comprising contacting the infected site with a therapeutically effective concentration of the present compound or compositions.

Abstract: Preparation, characterization, and an electrochemical study of Mg0.1V2O5 prepared by a novel sol-gel method with no high-temperature post-processing are disclosed. Cyclic voltammetry showed the material to be quasi-reversible, with improved kinetics in an acetonitrile-, relative to a carbonate-, based electrolyte. Galvanostatic test data under a C/10 discharge showed a delivered capacity >250 mAh/g over several cycles. Based on these results, a magnesium anode battery, as disclosed, would yield an average operating voltage ˜3.2 Volts with an energy density ˜800 mWh/g for the cathode material, making the newly synthesized material a viable cathode material for secondary magnesium batteries.

Abstract: The present disclosure presents systems and methods for assessing hospital acquired infection reduction strategies. One such method comprises analyzing, by a computing device, a risk of hospital acquired infections, using supervised learning to generate fuzzy set membership rules; assessing resilience based on observed hospital acquired infection risk moderation performance level across a continuum of fuzzy membership sets; and inferring, by the computing device, a performance of a hospital in hospital acquired infection risk factor prevention employing the fuzzy membership set rules. Other systems and methods are also provided.

Abstract: One aspect of the present invention is directed to a composition. The composition includes a dispersion inducer comprising: H3C—(CH2)n—CHmCHmR, where is a single or double carbon-carbon bond, m is 1 or 2, n is 2 to 15, and R is a carboxylic acid, a salt, an ester, or an amide, where the ester or amide is an isostere or biostere of the carboxylic acid. The composition additionally contains an additive component selected from one or more of the group consisting of biocides, surfactants, antibiotics, antiseptics, detergents, chelating agents, virulence factor inhibitors, gels, polymers, pastes, edible products, and chewable products. The composition is formulated so that when it is contacted with a biofilm produced by a microorganism, where the biofilm comprises a matrix and microorganism on a surface, the dispersion inducer selectively acts on the microorganism and has a suitable biological response without a required direct effect on the matrix to disperse the biofilm. The present invention is also directed to methods of using this compound.
