Abstract:
A vapor compression refrigeration system including components capable of determining the superheat at a compressor inlet is provided. The vapor compression refrigeration system may include sensors capable of making measurements from which the superheat at the compressor inlet may be determined. The vapor compression refrigeration system may be operable to compare the determined superheat level at the inlet to the compressor to a desired superheat level and generate a new evaporator discharge superheat level target for one or more evaporators operatively interconnected to the compressor to affect the superheat at the compressor inlet. The vapor compression refrigeration system may be operable to broadcast the new evaporator discharge superheat level target to the one or more evaporators over a communications bus. The vapor compression refrigeration system may update and broadcast the evaporator discharge superheat level target at programmed intervals.
Abstract:
An LCD controller includes a charge pump circuit for generating a charge voltage responsive to an external voltage and a clock signal. An oscillator generates the clock signal responsive to at least one bias voltage. The oscillator has a high power mode of operation and a low power mode of operation. Bias circuitry for applies the at least one bias voltage to the oscillator. The at least one bias voltage is applied to the oscillator from an external source in the high power mode of operation and the at least one bias voltage is applied to the oscillator from a source within the oscillator in the low power mode of operation. An LCD driver voltage circuit generates a plurality of LCD driver voltages for driving segments of an LCD display responsive to the charge voltage.
Abstract:
A method and system for managing field convertible operator replaceable components associated with a rendering device. A file that defines a set of operator replaceable components can be created and remotely installed on the device. The replaceable components associated with the device can be easily changed from a designation as a customer service engineer replacement component to an operator replacement component and vice versa. A determination that an operator is allowed to replace the component can be made based on a training level provided to the operator, the component availability, a usage pattern, and/or a security level. Such an approach enables the operator to perform the majority of maintenance on the device without requiring the services of a field engineer.
Abstract:
A system-on-chip (SoC) integrated circuit including an interleaved delta-sigma analog to digital converter (ADC) provides for reduced noise in the ADC conversions. The ADC is operated intermittently and the balance of the digital circuits forming the system are halted while the conversions take place. The halted portion of the system may include an output low-pass filter of the ADC. The system may include a processor core or other logic having a clock frequency unrelated to the ADC modulator clock frequency that is not otherwise clock-managed to reduce noise induced in the converter output by the operation of the core or other logic.
Abstract:
A delta-sigma having quantizer code pattern detection controlled dither reduces the probability of “stuck” code sequences that occur when the input signal and feedback signal are equal and thus no quantizer output change occurs. In particular, in modulators that are periodically reset, the pattern detection and dither control reduce the probability of a stuck code sequence at startup. A pattern detection circuit detects a sequence of unchanging quantizer output values and injects a signal at the quantizer input to cause the quantizer to change levels. The injected signal may be a dither signal that is increased in amplitude in response to the detection of unchanging code sequences and then decreased when the quantizer output changes.
Abstract:
Cyclic-shift diversity transmission and optional per-subcarrier transmit beamforming within a same time interval (e.g., OFDM symbol interval) takes place. The CSD transmission technique circularly shifts the IFFT output prior to any cyclic prefix insertion and has the effect of putting a subcarrier and antenna dependent phase shift in the effective channel response from each transmit antenna. To properly perform transmit adaptive array (TXAA) transmission within an OFDM symbol interval that is being circularly shifted by the CSD transmission technique, the TXAA weights will account for the frequency domain phase shift created by the CSD circular shift operation.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for manufacturing small quantities of cigarettes in a substantially simultaneous fashion while maintaining consistent quality between the cigarettes. The apparatus provides for arranging loose tobacco into tobacco charges and simultaneously inserting the charges into pre-formed tubular cigarette wrappers.
Abstract:
Apparatus incorporating a filter tow processing unit adapted to supply filter tow to a continuous rod forming unit includes an object insertion unit that positions objects within the filter tow to manufacture a filter rod containing objects positioned at predetermined intervals. The apparatus also includes an upper hopper that acts as a reservoir for a plurality of objects, and provides for supply of objects to a lower hopper. The lower hopper is shaped so that objects are stacked therein. The bottom of the lower hopper is shaped so as to cooperate with a portion of upper region of a rotating wheel. The peripheral face of the rotating wheel incorporates a plurality of spaced pockets, each pocket being of sufficient shape and size to accommodate one object. Objects within the lower hopper are aligned in a single line along a portion of the peripheral face in the upper region of the rotating wheel. Each object then is positioned at predetermined intervals within a continuous supply of filter material. Then, the filter material is formed into a continuous rod having individual objects positioned at predetermined spaced intervals within that rod. The continuous rod then is subdivided at predetermined intervals so as to form a plurality of filter rods (e.g., four-up filter rods containing four spaced objects).

Abstract:
A signage device (10) in which a housing (12) receives a circuit board (30) having a plurality of spaced-apart light sources (38) to define at least one symbol and a light-blocking sheet (60) having a message channel with opposing adjacent spaced-apart side walls. A light emitting surface closes a distal portion of the message channel, wherein light from the light sources communicates from the light emitting surface of the message channel.
