Abstract: A Public Land Mobile Network includes a network slice quota (NSQ) node to implement a quota on the number of user equipments (UEs) or (UE, PDU_Session) pairs that may be registered on a network slice. An access and mobility management function (AMF) queries the NSQ on whether quota is available for registration of a UE on a network slice in response to a notification of successful authorization and/or authentication (AAA) of the UE. Alternatively, the AMF may preemptively capture one or more units of network slice quota for the UE prior to initiation of the AAA procedure. The AMF may start a timer after UE deregistration is initiated, and not relinquish the quota unit held by the UE until after the timer's expiration. The network may also include a session management function (SMF) that provides UE identification as well as PDU Session ID when requesting registration of a UE.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for managing mobile-terminating short message service re-transmissions for wireless devices. A cellular network entity of a cellular network may receive a request to provide a short message service message to a wireless device. The wireless device may be registered with the cellular network entity via at least two access types. An attempt to provide the short message service message to the wireless device via a first access type may be performed. An attempt to provide the short message service message to the wireless device via a second access type may be performed if the attempt to provide the short message service message to the wireless device via the first access type is unsuccessful.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods to support emergency services sessions by network elements and by a wireless device are disclosed. The wireless device, when roaming to a visited country/region, queries a network-based server to obtain information for Public Land Mobile Networks (PLMNs) that support emergency services sessions via non-cellular wireless access in the visited country/region. The network-based server responds with a list of PLMNs from which the wireless device selects a PLMN. The wireless device further queries the network-based server to obtain information for evolved Packet Data Gateways (ePDGs) for a selected PLMN and receives from the network-based server a list of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for ePDGs that support emergency services sessions via non-cellular wireless access for the selected PLMN. The wireless device further queries the network-based server for local numbers of the visited country for establishing emergency services sessions and receives a categorized list of local numbers for emergency services.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for refreshing a GUTI of a UE. The UE may receive a GUTI from an AMF as part of a registration process. After a timer has expired, the UE may receive a new GUTI from the AMF. The timer may be provided by the UE as a request for use by the AMF. Alternatively, the timer may be used by the UE and the UE may request the new GUTI upon expiry of the timer, e.g., using an existing message or a new message, as desired.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) device may communicate according to a new device category satisfying specified QoS (quality of service) requirements while also satisfying specified link budget requirements, and additional optimization requirements. The new device category may identify the UE device as a wearable device. According to some embodiments, LTE category M may be extended to support non-MTC operations performed by wearable devices. For example, the new device category may support UE mobility and may disallow access barring. Additional extensions may be implemented in response to an indication by the UE that the UE is implementing a specific application, such as VoLTE or a near real-time application, such as audio streaming. In some scenarios, the indication may include the UE indicating a specific QCI value. In some scenarios, the indication may include the UE attaching to a specific APN.

Delaying Cellular Re-Registration During Critical Conditions

Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for network delaying cellular re-registration during critical conditions. A wireless device may register for cellular service with a cellular network. The wireless device may receive a configuration update command from a network element of the cellular network. The configuration update command may request re-registration of the wireless device. The wireless device may determine to delay responding to the configuration update command based at least in part on one or more conditions in effect at the wireless device. For example, one possible such condition may include if a protocol data unit session associated with emergency services is active at the wireless device.
