Abstract: Various mechanisms for paging link-budget-limited (LBL) devices are disclosed, including: (1) transmitting paging message with non-conventional paging identifier; (2) transmitting paging message(s) with increased power; (3) repeating transmission of paging message to support combining at receiver. Various mechanisms for UE device to signal LBL status are disclosed, including, transmitting status flag or special value of DRX cycle to network node as part of tracking area update and/or attach request. The network node informs a base station of the device's LBL status as part of a paging message. (The network node may, e.g., assign an S-RNTI to the LBL device from a reserved subset of S-RNTI space.) The base station invokes a paging enhancement mechanism when paging an LBL device. Alternatively, the base station may page UE devices without knowledge of LBL status, e.g., by counting paging attempts for a given UE, and boosting power after the Nth paging attempt.

The wireless device may perform the transmission, including transmitting the determined number of synchronization signal repetitions. The transmission may include an indication of the number of synchronization signal repetitions used in the transmission.

In some embodiments, the retransmission parameter is a number of retransmissions or a number of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) processes.

Abstract: Operating a user equipment (UE) which comprises a first radio that is configured to operate according to a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT. The UE may receive a request to perform a tune away operation for the second RAT while performing measurement for the first RAT (e.g., intra-cell measurement, inter-cell measurement, and/or inter-RAT measurement). Instead of waiting to complete the measurement of the first RAT, the UE may tune the radio to a frequency of the second RAT to perform the tune away operation (e.g., page decoding) for the second RAT. After completing the tune away operation of the second RAT, the UE may tune the radio back to a frequency corresponding to the first RAT in order to continue the measurement operations of the first RAT.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to wireless transmission energy budgets. In some embodiments, an apparatus is configured to determine wireless transmission energy budget for a plurality of time periods. In some embodiments, the apparatus determines budget differently depending on whether it is in a thermal mode or a peak power mode. In some embodiments, the apparatus blanks scheduled wireless transmissions that intersect with the battery signal. In some embodiments, for a time interval subsequent to assertion of the battery signal, the apparatus operates in the peak power mode and determines energy budget for periods based on an amount of energy used for wireless transmissions in a most recent period in which transmissions were blanked in response to the battery signal. In some embodiments, in the thermal mode, the energy budget is based on thermal information for the apparatus, but may also allow carryover of unused budget from previous periods.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to operating multi-SIM mobile devices. In some embodiments, a UE comprises at least first and second SIMs where the first SIM is configured to communications via a home network or one or roaming networks and the second SIM is configurable for communications via local networks other than the home network. In these embodiments, the UE is configured to execute a first protocol stack for communications using the first SIM via a home network or a roaming network. In these embodiments, the UE is further configured to search for available networks for the second SIM using the first protocol stack and select an available local network for the second SIM using the first protocol stack. This may reduce power consumption and/or improve communication quality during the search, in some embodiments.

Abstract: A system, apparatus and method to maintain continuity of a Voice over Long Term Evolution (LTE) (VoLTE) call. The system includes a first user equipment (UE) configured to perform a (VoLTE) call and a second UE configured to perform the VoLTE call with the first UE. The UE's are configured to maintain continuity of the VoLTE call by determining when one of a first dedicated bearer linked to a first default bearer of the first UE or a second dedicated bearer linked to a second default bearer of the second UE is lost and transmitting a signal to an Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) server that prevents release of the determined dedicated bearer, the signal further triggering a re-activation of the determined dedicated bearer.
