    Abstract: Various mechanisms for paging link-budget-limited (LBL) devices are disclosed, including: (1) transmitting paging message with non-conventional paging identifier; (2) transmitting paging message(s) with increased power; (3) repeating transmission of paging message to support combining at receiver. Various mechanisms for UE device to signal LBL status are disclosed, including, transmitting status flag or special value of DRX cycle to network node as part of tracking area update and/or attach request. The network node informs a base station of the device's LBL status as part of a paging message. (The network node may, e.g., assign an S-RNTI to the LBL device from a reserved subset of S-RNTI space.) The base station invokes a paging enhancement mechanism when paging an LBL device. Alternatively, the base station may page UE devices without knowledge of LBL status, e.g., by counting paging attempts for a given UE, and boosting power after the Nth paging attempt.

    Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to wireless transmission energy budgets. In some embodiments, an apparatus is configured to determine wireless transmission energy budget for a plurality of time periods. In some embodiments, the apparatus determines budget differently depending on whether it is in a thermal mode or a peak power mode. In some embodiments, the apparatus blanks scheduled wireless transmissions that intersect with the battery signal. In some embodiments, for a time interval subsequent to assertion of the battery signal, the apparatus operates in the peak power mode and determines energy budget for periods based on an amount of energy used for wireless transmissions in a most recent period in which transmissions were blanked in response to the battery signal. In some embodiments, in the thermal mode, the energy budget is based on thermal information for the apparatus, but may also allow carryover of unused budget from previous periods.

    Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to operating multi-SIM mobile devices. In some embodiments, a UE comprises at least first and second SIMs where the first SIM is configured to communications via a home network or one or roaming networks and the second SIM is configurable for communications via local networks other than the home network. In these embodiments, the UE is configured to execute a first protocol stack for communications using the first SIM via a home network or a roaming network. In these embodiments, the UE is further configured to search for available networks for the second SIM using the first protocol stack and select an available local network for the second SIM using the first protocol stack. This may reduce power consumption and/or improve communication quality during the search, in some embodiments.
