摘要: A method and apparatus for a telephone line interface or data access arrangement (DAA) which includes a shunt regulator in series with a line modulator. A sense resistor is placed in series between the shunt regulator and the line modulator to provide a measurement of the amount of current distortion in the DAA. The line modulator contains a Darlington pair which reduces the amount of current drawn by the line modulator, allowing the sense resistor to sense a majority of the system current. The voltage across the sense resistor is fed back to the line modulator. The line modulator is capable of adjusting the AC modulation and the DC termination presented to the telephone line. The method includes drawing power from the telephone line using a shunt regulator, modulating the telephone line in series with the shunt regulator, sensing a level of distortion in the DAA, and feeding the sensed level of distortion to the line modulator.

摘要: Telephone line service type identification is provided to a telephone technician in the field by the placement of one or more tuned circuit(s) across the telephone line. In one embodiment, an inexpensive tuned circuit such as a ceramic resonator forms a telecom service resonator ID device which is placed across a telephone line, either at the central office or at the customer premises. Injection of a test current at a predetermined frequency, and a suitable amplitude of the same indicates to the technician aspects of telecom service to that particular telephone line (e.g., the existence of POTS, ISDN, and/or xDSL) and or use of the telephone line by a home network such as HPNA. In another embodiment, a telecom service transponder ID device is formed to provide line service identification to an interrogating line technician. The telecom service transponder ID device is activated when the test signal including an appropriate frequency is present to cause excitation in the telecom service transponder ID device. The resonator and transponder devices preferably have very high impedances at all frequencies except at the desired resonant frequency, and thus avoids violation of telephone service standards. The resonator or transponder ID devices may be placed anywhere along the telephone line, but preferably at the customer premises, or in installed equipment utilizing the telephone line. More than one resonation frequency may be implemented with parallel tuned circuits to indicate additional features of service on the telephone line (e.g., the number of services, the existence of a data service, etc.). The frequencies of resonance of the tuned circuits are preferably chosen to exist between the spectrum utilized by the various operating services.

摘要: In described embodiments, a clock alignment system with a digital bang-bang phase detector (BBPD) employs digitally implemented hysteresis. A first BBPD is employed for a phase control loop that compares the phases from two different clock domain sources, where one clock domain source is used as a reference clock for the phase control loop. A second BBPD with delayed reference clock is employed to resolve ambiguous phase relations seen by the first BBPD. An initial state of a BBPD vector, defined as a vector of current values of the first BBPD and the second BBPD, is examined. Based on the initial and subsequent states of the BBPD vector, the non-reference clock is permitted to naturally move to a lock state through action of the phase control loop, or forced to have its phase rotate clockwise or counterclockwise to reach the lock state.

摘要: A voltage controlled delay loop and method are disclosed for clock and data recovery applications. The voltage controlled delay loop generates clock signals having similar frequency and different phases. The voltage controlled delay loop comprises a plurality of delay elements; and an input that selectively injects a reference clock into any one of the plurality of delay elements. The plurality of delay elements are connected in series, such as in a loop. In one exemplary implementation, each delay element has an associated multiplexer that selects one of the reference clock and a signal from a previous delay element.

An exemplary apparatus includes a data sampler adapted to sample input serial data and to provide output data; a controlled tap delay with a selected tap having a phase offset from the input serial data, in which the selected tap is selectively coupleable to the data sampler to provide pseudo asynchronous input serial data; a first variable delay control adapted to delay a reference frequency provided to the controlled tap delay in response to the pseudo asynchronous input serial data; and a second delay control adapted to adjust the plurality of taps in response to the pseudo asynchronous input serial data. In additional embodiments, the pseudo asynchronous input serial data is provided from an interpolated phase from at least two selected taps.

摘要: Methods and apparatus are provided for determining receiver filter coefficients for a plurality of phases. One or more coefficients for a receiver filter are determined by determining a first coefficient for a first phase of a data eye; and determining a second coefficient for a second phase of the data eye. The receiver filter may be, for example, a decision-feedback equalizer. The first and second coefficients may be determined by performing an LMS adaptation of decision-feedback equalization coefficients. In another embodiment, the first and second coefficients may be determined by obtaining eye opening metrics from a data eye monitor corresponding to each of the respective first phase and the second phase; and determining the respective first and second coefficients based on the eye opening metrics. The first and second phases can correspond to odd and even phases.

摘要: A pre-distorter that compensates for amplitude and phase distortion created by an amplifier. During a training session, the amplifier is stimulated with input signals of pre-selected amplitude and phase at various temperatures and the amplifier output is captured and converted into data sets. Polynomials are then fitted to the data sets and inverses of the polynomials are determined. The coefficients of the inverse polynomials are then saved for each temperature. During operation, the amplifier temperature is predicted based on the amplifier input signal and the coefficients associated with the predicted temperature are selected to be applied to the input signal to compensate for amplitude and phase distortion caused by the amplifier.

摘要: A system for powering up an electronic circuit with telephone line power such that the electronic circuit does not enter a lockup state. The system includes a voltage detector that measures the voltage across the telephone line and a switch coupled with the voltage detector. The voltage detector generates a Reset signal when the measured voltage exceeds a selected voltage level, and the switch applies power to the electronic circuit in response to the generated Reset signal.
