Abstract: A machine learning based adaptive short beacon activation (SBA) engine is described. The SBA engine provides for activating or suppressing short beacon transmission in a network cell based on total network cell effects in both airtime consumption and network flows as determined by the SBA engine. In some examples the SBA engine utilizes input parameters received from various wireless medium to evaluate the current and near future advantages and/or disadvantages of activating/suppressing short beacons.

Abstract: Augmenting a neighbor report with uplink Received Signal Strength Indicators (RSSIs) may be provided. First, a conducted transmit power value of a client device may be determined. A plurality of RSSI uplink values respectively corresponding to a plurality of Access Points (APs) may then be determined. Next, a plurality of RSSI downlink values respectively corresponding to the plurality of APs may be determined based on the respective plurality of RSSI uplink values, a respective plurality of conducted transmit power values corresponding to the plurality of APs, and the conducted transmit power value of the client device. A plurality of quality metrics respectively corresponding to the plurality of APs may then be determined based on the determined plurality of RSSI uplink values and the determined plurality of RSSI downlink values. Then, a neighbor report may be optimized based on the plurality of quality metrics.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method is performed. A first wireless access point (AP) device may generate a timing synchronization frame. The timing synchronization frame may include a target beacon transmission time (TBTT) associated with the first wireless AP device. The first wireless AP device may transmit the timing synchronization frame to a second wireless AP device. The first and second wireless AP devices may be synchronized using the timing synchronization frame.

Abstract: Presented herein are methodologies for setting a target wake time for a wireless client that is being served by an access point, wherein the access point also performs scanning for locating the wireless client. The methodology includes determining a start time of a time window for scanning, e.g., for locations of respective wireless clients, setting a target wake time of a given wireless client, among the wireless clients, based on the start time of the time window for scanning respective wireless clients, and wirelessly communicating the target wake time to the given wireless client.

Abstract: An algorithm for determining redundant radios in APs is disclosed. The algorithm first performs a coverage peak flattening algorithm to predict an impact to the total coverage area if a radio in a selected AP does not transmit signals in a frequency band. If the impact to the total coverage area is acceptable, the algorithm then performs a multi-point check algorithm to determine whether the radio in the selected AP is redundant in the frequency band. After determining that the radio in the selected AP is redundant in the frequency band, the algorithm transforms the redundant radio into various services based on the network deployment and user preference.

Abstract: A third device stores a receive signal strength of a received response data unit transmitted by a second device after receiving a first data unit transmitted by a first device. The third device obtains a clear channel access parameter included in a header of a second data unit transmitted by the first device to the second device and detects transmission exchanges in each of a plurality of service sets to use as samples of overlapping service set activity. The third device determines a minimum transmit power to be used by the third device to send a transmission to the fourth device based on transmission exchanges between devices in a particular service set. The third device determines whether to send a transmission to the fourth device based on the clear channel access parameter and minimum transmit power.

Abstract: Presented herein are techniques for using uplink transmissions from devices (e.g., wireless tags, clients, etc.) to determine a path loss between neighboring access points. In one example, a wireless controller obtains receive signal strength information of uplink transmissions received at neighboring access points in a wireless network. The wireless controller determines an effective path loss between the neighboring access points based on the receive signal strength information for the uplink transmissions received at the neighboring access points. The wireless controller also performs radio resource management operations in the wireless network using the effective path loss determined based on the uplink transmissions received at the neighboring access points.

Abstract: Dynamic configuration of Overlapping Basic Set Service Preamble Detect (OBSS/PD) parameters for an Access Point (AP) may be provided. First, a plurality of stations within a Spatial Reuse (SR) range of the AP may be determined. Next, Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) calculations associated with the plurality of stations may be performed to determine an SINR impact on the plurality of stations if the AP performs an SR transmission given OBSS/PD parameters currently configured for the AP. Then, based on the SINR calculations, the OBSS/PD parameters for the AP may be dynamically adjusted.

Abstract: An access point allocates resource units within a first channel to mitigate interference from an adjacent second channel. The access point obtains a measure of signal strength corresponding to each wireless device attached to an access point, and assigns, for each wireless device, resource units with a first frequency band of the first channel to mitigate interference with a second frequency band of a second channel adjacent to the first channel. An assignment between a set of resource units and a particular wireless device is based on the measure of signal strength corresponding to the particular wireless device. The access point communicates with the wireless devices on the resource units.
