    摘要: The invention relates to a method of decoding coded signals corresponding to successive segmented pictures, or partitions, divided into homogeneous regions to which specific labels are respectively associated. The partitions have been previously coded by means of a coding method comprising, for each partition to be coded, the steps of translating the picture of labels into a chain in which the elements are defined by means of their movements through successive basic cells, tracking inside each cell each contour from its initial point to its end by storing symbols corresponding both to the elements of said cell and to priorities between them, and repeating these two steps up to the end of each contour of the partition and coding the information corresponding to the chains of movements. The corresponding decoding method then comprises (A) a forward decoding step, provided for decoding within said chain symbols all contour points that are sure in the decoded partition and detecting local inconsistencies, and (B) a backward decoding step, provided for tracking in a backwards manner the decoded contours and solving said inconsistencies on the basis of marks introduced during the detection of these inconsistencies.

A content receiving device controls at least one parameter of video content streamed to the display device from a streaming server in accordance with the viewer context. In this way, when the viewer context allows for lower quality video content, the content receiving device can signal the streaming server to reduce the quality of the video content, thereby saving bandwidth.

    摘要: A system and method for correcting artifacts present in video frames is disclosed. The system includes a decision module (110) and an artifact correction unit (120). The system receives artifact metrics (112) and artifact maps (122) corresponding to artifacts present in video frames and prioritizes the video frames to be corrected by considering the type and severity of the artifacts and the content of the video frames (113). Subsequent to prioritizing the video frames, the system corrects artifacts of selected frames by adjusting compressed domain parameters (126), such as quantization parameters and mode decisions. An encoder (130) compresses the video frames according to the adjusted compressed domain parameter to automatically provide a video stream with a lower incidence and severity of artifacts.

    摘要: The present principles provides a method and apparatus for jointly adjusting the rounding offset and the quantization step size on a macroblock level to improve the perceptual quality of the fine details of the encoded image. In one implementation, the content of the pictures is analyzed and the smooth regions are identified. A quantization step size value for the picture is initially defined and a rounding offset is adaptively assigned to each macroblock based on the content characteristics. The quantization step size is then calculated for the a particular macroblock according to another content characteristic of the macroblock such that the encoding of the particular macroblock is performed in response to the calculated quantization step size and the rounding offset value of the first block.

    摘要: To simulate film grain in a compressed video signal, a decoder (15, 28) receives a message containing information that contains a set of one or more parameters, each specifying certain attribute associated with the film grain. For example, one of the parameters will specify the model used to simulate the film grain, whereas other parameters each specify a particular factor associated with that model. Upon receipt of the message, the decoder selects the model, and simulates the film grain for addition to the video signal following decompression.
