摘要: A guide instrument for passing a medical needle with thread through or between body tissues has first and second shafts mounted to be pivotally movable to each other and is formed with, on the first shaft, a needle stand for making the needle with thread stand up and holding the needle with thread, a hole for guiding the thread, and a slit and with, on the second shaft, a needle receiver for receiving the needle when the shafts are made close while the needle with thread stands up at the needle stand. When the shafts 1, 2 are made close while the needle with thread stands up at the needle stand, the needle with thread passes through and between the body tissues and is engaged with the needle receiver. When the shafts are made open, the needle with thread while keeping the engagement with the needle receiver separates from the needle stand, and therefore, the needle with thread can be guided from the first shaft to the second shaft. Where a container for containing the needle with thread is formed in continuation with the needle stand on the parting faces of the first and second shafts, the container can prevent the needle with thread from dropping out, as well as can prevent the body tissues from being damaged by the needle, before the needle reaches an affected area at a time of ligation or suture.

摘要: There are disclosed a method of and apparatus for grinding an elongated material for a suture needle. An elongated grinding tape is reciprocally moved in its longitudinal direction, and simultaneously the material is pressed against the grinding tape in such a manner that the material is disposed substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the grinding tape and is inclined relative to one face of the grinding tape, thereby grinding the material to form a cutting edge on at least one side edge of a grounded surface of the material. The grinding apparatus includes a mechanism for reciprocally moving the grinding tape in opposite directions along the longitudinal direction of the grinding tape, a mechanism for transferring the grinding tape in a predetermined one of the opposite directions along the longitudinal direction of the grinding tape, a tape support member, and a mechanism for supporting the material and for pressing the material against that portion of the grinding tape positioned at a support surface of the tape support member. A suture needle includes at least one ground surface, and a pair of cutting edges formed respectively on opposite side edges of the ground surface. The ground surface has grinding traces which extend perpendicular to an axis of the suture needle, and the pair of cutting edges are in generally the same condition from a microscopic point of view.

摘要: A dental handpiece includes an arm, and a hollow head formed on a distal end of the arm. The head has a nozzle projecting from an inner surface thereof. Cooling water, fed via a main coolant passageway of the arm, is injected from the nozzle. A generally cylindrical holder for supporting a dental burr is rotatably supported within the head. The cooling water injected from the nozzle passes through an auxiliary coolant passageway, formed axially through the dental burr, and is injected from a grinding portion of the dental burr. The dental handpiece also includes a pump mechanism for feeding the cooling water. Injected from the nozzle, into the auxiliary coolant passageway of the dental burr. The pump mechanism includes a screw mounted on the outer periphery of the nozzle, and a pump housing which is mounted on one end portion of the holder disposed close to the nozzle and surrounds the screw. The cooling water within the pump housing rotates in response to the rotation of the holder and the pump housing, and therefore is guided by the stationary screw to be fed into the auxiliary coolant passageway of the dental burr.

摘要: There is disclosed a surgical stapler. An anvil is mounted on a distal end portion of an elongated body of the stapler. A guide member supports a number of staples disposed in contiguous relation to one another. The staples are urged toward the anvil by an urging mechanism. A ram is mounted on the body for movement along the longitudinal axis of the body. A lever is pivotally mounted on the body, and the pivotal movement of the lever is converted into a rectilinear movement of the ram by a motion converting mechanism. The ram, when advanced, cooperates with the anvil to deform the staple disposed in a path of movement of the ram. In order to achieve a lightweight and small-size construction of the stapler, the lever is pivotally connected at its proximal end to the proximal end portion of the body so that the lever is pivotally movable toward and away from the body, and a distal end portion of the lever serves as a manipulating portion. A mid portion of the lever spaced apart from the manipulating portion acts on the motion converting mechanism. Also, in order to achieve the above purpose, a guide passage for guiding an urging member of the urging mechanism has a curved portion, and the urging member has a flexible portion which can be guided by the curved portion.

摘要: An apparatus for attaching an end of a suture to an axially extending bore formed in a proximal end of a surgical needle. At least one of a pair of staking dies is movable toward and away from the other. A proximal end face of the surgical needle is engageable with a stopper surface of a guide unit to axially position the surgical needle. The guide unit has a guide passage extending substantially perpendicularly to the stopper surface, for guiding the end of the suture. An outlet of the guide passage opens to the stopper surface in confronting relation to a space between the staking dies. The guide passage has a tapered portion decreasing in cross-sectional area toward the outlet. The proximal end of the surgical needle is positioned by a positioning mechanism perpendicularly to the axis of the surgical needle so that the bore in the surgical needle is brought substantially into alignment with the outlet of the guide passage.

摘要: A method of forming a bore for attachment of an end of a suture, in a proximal end portion of an eyeless operating needle. An original needle is prepared which has its outer diameter greater than that of the operating needle. Beam is applied to an end face of a proximal end portion of the original needle to form the bore therein extending along an axis of the proximal end portion of the original needle, with an outer peripheral portion of the original needle serving as a heat conductive material. Subsequently, an outer diameter of the original needle is reduced to remove the outer peripheral portion from the original needle, to form the operating needle. Alternatively, a separate heat conductive material is disposed around at least one eyeless operating needle and is removed after the bore is formed in the proximal end portion of the operating needle.

摘要: A surgical cutlery and a manufacturing method thereof, which prevent over-etching and reduce pierce resistance, are provided. The manufacturing method of the surgical cutlery made of a round bar material 15 of austenitic stainless steel with a fibrous structure includes the steps of: forming a working portion 16 of the cutlery from the round bar material 15 for piercing or cutting a living tissue, wherein the fibrous structure runs along an axis a; forming a wheel mark 24 on the working portion of the surgical cutlery; and etching the working portion 23 after etching. The etching is performed to the limit that allows creation of a plurality of craters on the working portion, but does not allow creation of grooves along the fibrous structure. Afterwards, application of silicone is performed on the resulting surface.
