The tooling includes a termination die and positioning structure for holding a connector in place for termination by the die. Stop structure is disposed spaced from the termination die for engaging one end of the cable with the axial direction of the cable being generally normal to the longitudinal direction of the connector so as to locate the cable end with respect to the connector. Finally, the tooling includes slide structure for supporting the cable. The slide structure is movable transversely of the axial direction of the cable between a loading position, wherein the cable engages the stop structure, and a termination position, in which the cable is positioned for termination in the connector by the die, whereby the cable is positioned with respect to the connector without the stop structure engaging the cable during termination.

    摘要: Termination tooling adapted for use with a prime mover, such as a bench press, for terminating a flat cable in a connector of the type having an insulative base and cover with the base carrying a plurality of insulation displacement terminal elements extending toward the cover. The tooling includes a termination die and holding means for positioning the connector with respect to the termination die. The prime mover is connected to cause the die and the holding means to undergo reciprocal movement relative to one another. The tooling also includes stop means disposed adjacent one side of a connector positioned in the holding means for engaging the leading end of a flat cable. Cable movement means is provided for moving the leading end of the cable a predetermined distance away from the stop toward the connector prior to termination of the connector.

    摘要: An electrical connector for mechanically joining a plurality of wires to a plurality of other electrical components and for providing low resistance electrical paths between predetermined ones of the plurality of wires and preselected ones of the plurality of other electrical components. The connector includes an insulative housing having a front wall, a back wall and a plurality of spaced barrier walls extending between the front wall and back wall to define an array of cavities extending through the housing. The connector also includes a plurality of metallic terminal elements each of which has a wire terminating portion and a portion for receiving another electrical component with one terminal element preloaded into each of the housing cavities prior to wiring of the connector. The wire terminating portion has an open-ended elongate wire-receiving slot having a width less than the diameter of the conductor in the wire to be terminated in the wire terminating portion so that in response to the insertion of the wire laterally of its axis into the slot, the insulation of the wire is removed. The wire terminating portion further includes an entrance adjoining the slot and of greater width than the slot to guide the wire into the slot. The housing and/or the terminal element has holding means for mechanically holding each wire in alignment with the entrance to the slot corresponding to that wire prior to insertion of the wire into the slot whereby after positioning of the wires into the holding means and prior to insertion of the wires into the slots, the connector can be physically moved without dissociation of the wires from their corresponding slots.

    摘要: A self-locking cable tie for forming a plurality of elongate objects such as wires into a bundle. The cable tie comprises an elongate flexible strap positionable about the objects and including a plurality of spaced transversely extending abutments; and a head extending from adjacent one end of the strap having a strap entrance face, a strap exit face, and a transverse aperture extending between the faces for receiving the distal end of the strap. The cable tie further comprises non-pivotal locking means carried by the head and extending into the aperture for securely engaging a preselected one of the abutments and pusher means carried by the head and extending into the aperture. The pusher means is responsive to retrograde movement of the strap to push the abutment to be held into engagement with the locking means and the pusher means has a position wherein its spacing from the locking means is sufficient to permit strap passage therebetween whereby the strap can be threaded with relatively low force as the pusher means is not required to resist strap withdrawal forces.

After the locking head is positioned in the holding means and the strap is positioned in the respective guide means of the first and second member, respectively, the object can be inserted between the flat surfaces and the strap inserted through the locking head and tightened thereby to firmly hold the object without substantial deformation thereof.

    摘要: A layered tape having pockets therein is used as part of a communication cable to improve alien crosstalk attenuation. In one embodiment, a single layered tape has an embossed layer bonded to a matrix tape layer having non-continuous conductive traces, with the resulting layered tape reducing alien crosstalk between cables. Pockets resulting from the embossing are filled with a gas such as dry air to decrease the dielectric constant through the effective thickness of the tape. A layered tape may alternatively be provided as a separate tape from a matrix tape, such that coupling between conductive pairs of the cable and the matrix tape is reduced. Decreasing the dielectric constant of materials between adjacent cables also decreases alien crosstalk coupling between the cables.

The cable is extruded from an extruder. The jacket may contain corrugations after being extruded by the extruder. The cable may be passed through dies to form a helically corrugated jacket. The jacket heated by a heater prior to being passed through the dies, or may pass through the dies while still hot from the extruder.
