    Abstract: A wireless communications system includes a plurality of infrastructure equipment forming part of a radio access network of a wireless communications network, and a communications device configured to transmit signals via the wireless access interface to one or more of the infrastructure equipment and to receive signals transmitted from one or more of the infrastructure equipment via the wireless access interface. The communications device is configured, when in an inactive state, to receive, from one of the infrastructure equipment, information from which an indication of one or more of the infrastructure equipment representing a notification area of the radio access network can be derived, the one or more infrastructure equipment of the notification area being for use in transmitting tether signals to the communications device from the wireless communications network.

    Abstract: A communications device is provided, which is configured to transmit or receive signals via a wireless access interface provided by the wireless communications network to or from one or more infrastructure equipment. The communications device is configured, at the time of a Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection establishment procedure, to receive a first message from one of the infrastructure equipment comprising an indication that the infrastructure equipment is capable of operating in accordance with a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) in accordance with a first radio access technology, to establish a PDCP entity based on the received indication, and to transmit a second message to the infrastructure equipment comprising an indication that the communications device is capable of operating in accordance with one or both of the PDCP in accordance with the first radio access technology and a PDCP in accordance with a second radio access technology.

    Abstract: Methods are provided for communicating in a mobile network, the mobile network comprising a plurality of infrastructure equipment, each providing wireless connectivity within at least one cell, and a device configured to communicate wirelessly with at least a first of the infrastructure equipment in control of a first cell. In some embodiments, the method comprises determining, at the device, whether a second cell under control of a second of the infrastructure equipment is connected to a first core network operating in accordance with a first protocol or both of the first core network and a second core network operating in accordance with a second protocol, and transmitting, by the device, an automatic neighbor relation report to the first infrastructure equipment, a report comprising an indication of whether the second cell is connected to the first core network or both of the first core network and the second core network.

    Abstract: An infrastructure equipment (eNodeB) is configured to transmit a paging notification which indicates that configuration information which is broadcast in a cell to all communications devices which are configured to operate in accordance with a network controlled function has changed. Communications devices which are configured to perform the network controlled function are provided with an indication that they should receive the configuration information which is broadcast in order to reconfigure the network controlled function. A communications device which is not configured to perform the network controlled function may not recognise the paging notification or at least may detect that it does not need to receive the updated configuration information for the network controlled service. Such communications devices may therefore remain in an idle mode thereby saving power.

    Abstract: A method of transmitting blocks of data in a wireless telecommunications system in which blocks of data are transmitted a plurality of times. When a first block of data becomes available for transmission an initial selection of transmission resources for a plurality of transmissions of the first block of data in a corresponding plurality of time periods is made, and transmissions of the first block of data are started. While there are still transmissions of the first block of data which remain to be made, a second block of data becomes available for transmission. In response to this, the initial selection of transmission resources for the remaining repeat transmissions of the first block of data is modified to increase the amount of resource available for transmitting the second block of data during the time periods in which repeat transmissions of the first block of data remain to be made.

    Abstract: A transmitting node operating with a mobile communications system comprises transmitter circuitry configured to transmit signals representing protocol data units formed from one or more service data units via a wireless access interface of the mobile communications system to a receiving node of the mobile communications system according to an automatic repeat request process, receiver circuitry configured to receive signals from the receiving node via the wireless access interface, controller circuitry configured to control the transmitter circuitry to transmit the signals and to control the receiver circuitry to receive the signals, and a buffer configured to store data conveyed by or representing the protocol data units for transmission to the receiving node according to the automatic repeat request process, wherein each of the protocol data units has a sequence number defining their position in a predetermined order.
