Abstract: The disclosure relates to a 5G or 6G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate. Disclosed is a method of operating a User Equipment, the UE being operable in a first mode or a second mode, and being further operable to communicate with a telecommunication network, wherein in the first mode (EPS/S1) if: the UE receives a SERVICE ACCEPT message: the UE has set a Control plane service type of a CONTROL PLANE SERVICE REQUEST message to “mobile terminating request” and an “active” flag in the Control plane service type Information Element, IE, to 0); User Plane, UP, radio bearers have not been set up; and the CONTROL PLANE SERVICE REQUEST message was sent from EMM-IDLE mode, then the UE starts a timer to guard a time during which the UE remains in connected mode; and in the second mode (5GS/N1) if: the UE sends a CONTROL PLANE SERVICE REQUEST message; the UE did not set a Control plane service type IE to “emergency services fallback”; the UE has not included an Uplink data status IE in the CONTROL PLANE SERVICE REQUEST message, or the UE has included the Uplink data status IE in the CONTROL PLANE SERVICE REQUEST message but a received SERVICE ACCEPT message indicates that no user-plane resources of any PDU sessions are to be re-established, then the UE starts a timer to guard a time during which the UE remains in connected mode.

The UE includes a transceiver, memory storing one or more computer programs, and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the transceiver and the memory, wherein the one or more computer programs include computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the UE to identify an application running on the UE and a corresponding packet data unit (PDU) session mapping for the application data route, defer a re-evaluation of UE route selection policy (URSP), until at least one condition has been met, based on an application type, and trigger the re-evaluation and applying highest priority URSP rules for traffic for the identified application during an ongoing service session based on the application type.

Abstract: Embodiments herein achieve a method for handling registration and session management in a wireless communication system. The method includes registering, by a User Equipment (UE), with a first core network entity over a 3GPP access network and a non-3GPP access network. Further, the method includes triggering, by the UE, a registration procedure to a second core network over the 3GPP access network when a periodic timer of the UE expires in an OOS state. Further, the method includes receiving, by the UE, a non-access stratum (NAS) message, over the 3GPP access network, with an indication to register for the non-3GPP access network with the second core network entity. Further, the method includes reinitiating the registration procedure to register again for the non-3GPP access with the second core network entity through the non-3GPP access network.
